Free Suave Products Today Only!
Head on over to suave.com for a coupon (sent by mail) for a free suave product - a shampoo, or conditioner, or hair spray, or body wash/lotion, or styling aid. I love the Suave number 8 hair spray (and so does Mr. Inky - he has a high-maintenance pompadour!)
This offer is for today only, and the server is slow, as you can imagine, but it did work for me. You will have to provide an e-mail address (I keep a special "spam" gmail account) and, of course, your mailing address.

Cat Update
Mostly for my own tracking, but in case you want to know, things are getting better here at Casa de Runny Poop and Medicines.
Boo Kitty has regained his appetite and his face is looking much better. We can only hope his fur will grow back into the spots left by the scabs of whatever it was he was allergic to. He's also been much more interactive (read: kicking ass) with Bella and they romp around a few times a day. He is still on morning and night time meds for a few more days. Liquid meds are the bomb for kitties (well, mostly for us humans to give to the kitties). I am still not entirely sure his poop is back to normal as I can't follow him around all day to watch, and the one poop example in the box may or may not have been his. Either way, it wasn't totally solid but it wasn't diarrhea either. Which brings us to Bella:
She's eating well, full of energy, sleeps well, looks great and having more solid poop. I did have the pleasure (!) of being in the room when she pooped and it was indeed slightly more solid and incredibly stinky. She's ended her short term night dose and still on the morning dose of Albon for a few more days. She is also taking well to her new diet.
We can only hope that Casa de Runny Poop and Medicines will soon return to "normal," because crazy cat lady I am not.

I WANTS DO-OVAR, PLZ
It's true what they say...however you spend your New Year's Eve is how your year will pan out. Now I realize it's only the 10th of January, but let's see, so far we've paid the vet over $650 for medical bills for Boo and Bella.
Bella is the root of all evil and I am changing her name to Exorcist Kitten. The following is primarily for me to document recent activities:
To be honest, looking at her, she is the perfect picture of kittenhood. She's alert, has clean eyes, no runny nose, no sneezing, excellent appetite, but oh my god, she has the pooping. Runny yucky OUTSIDE THE FUCKING BOX pooping. She was tested the Monday after we got her (which was 12/20/08) for all the kitty ailments and she received a clean bill of health, except for coccidia, a rather aggressive parasite commonly found in rescue cats (and dogs for that matter). Okay, usually 10 days of Albon medicine does the trick. But it didn't. So we're on round two, with the addition of five days of another med whose name I can't recall right now. Oh yea, and let's buy her a covered cat box while we're at it. And change her diet to a higher fiber one (at least that was timely, she needed more food).
And Boo, my poor Boo-friend. We kept them apart until she got her clean bill of health (and did not let them share the cat box so that the coccidia would not be transmitted). But yet on New Years Eve he has to go to the vet for these weird sores that popped up all over his nose and mouth. Allergic reaction - antibiotic PILLS. Mr. Inky, you can handle giving him the pills, thank you very much. The antibiotics did start clearing up the sores right away, amen to that.
But all the while Boo is lethargic from time to time and just not eating the same. He weighed 22.10 on 1/31/08 when he was treated for the sores. Since then he was eating mostly okay, not quite as big an appetite. But over the past two days, no real eating and lethargic again, and even a fat cat has to eat daily or they can risk liver damage. Oh and he seems to be either constipated or passing some foul diarrhea. Poor Boo! I take him to the vet (alone, Mr. Inky could not get out of work, and I can't carry 22 pounds in a cat carrier very well). I like our vet very much and she was super thorough. Boo had an extensive round of blood work on 1/31/08 and it was all clear. He did have a 104 fever that day (normal cat temp - 101 to about 102.2 or so). Fever and sores on face could be related. But yesterday he had a 103.1 temp and no obvious problems in the blood work, so x-ray here we come. X-ray all clear. Actually a good thing to check, because he is so obese, was the size of his liver. Liver is fine, totally normal sized, as are his kidneys, heart, lungs were clear and intestines not impacted. Sigh. Sometimes good news is frustrating. So lets try an anti-diarrhea med that is also an antibiotic. And no, he doesn't have coccidia from the kitten. He also gets fluids as hes dehydrated. There are water bowls all over the damn house, take a drink already, Boo.
We get home and he immediately wants to eat. He eats (btw, he lost 15 ounces in a week, good to lose, bad way to do it). He eats his food and actually horns in on Bella's new food. Good sign, it's about time he gives her a mighty smack down anyway.
He ate well last night, interacted with us and Bella a bit, and this morning is behaving fairly normal. Still has diarrhea, of course, but he's only had two doses of his med thus far (liquid this time, MUCH eaiser on everyone).
So, here's the drill:
AM - Bella and Boo both get liquid meds and measured feedings.
PM - rinse and repeat above.
I am so exhausted I can't see straight. My mother said I don't handle stress and turmoil well, and she's damn right. I like a nice medium-toned life, no particular highs and certainly no particular lows. I survive and function best this way.
So, please, let this be the upswing toward mediocrity. Cuz if not, I wants do-ovar, plz.

Old Year, New Year
2008 - So long and thanks for all the fish.
This year was not bad at all in retrospect, but it won' t be missed either. A major job change was in store for Mr. Inky during 2008, which has turned out to be a very good thing in the current job market. My job is holding it's own thus far and it seems the County of Los Angeles may renew our contract, not sure yet. I wouldn't want to have to get a real job where I have to dress and leave the house. YUCK!!
Decent health was had by all, with some minor hassles regarding my frozen shoulder, a pesky benign lump that I had removed (again) from my back recently, and a cold or two. Aside from all that, the year went along nicely, with swing dancing being our new favorite thing to do. I do vow to knit and sew more this year and plan to start today by resurrecting a lace scarf to finish.
The weight loss has stalled at around 186 to 188 pounds, so it's time to re-address that. I learned a great deal about maintenance these last months and feel very well about my health and size. I did choose to return to a low dose of blood pressure meds as I kept a borderline status. Perhaps getting rid of another 20 or 30 pounds will help, but I also understand if I have to take something for the blood pressure, even if I really don't like taking medicines. The answer is journaling my food and walking, so we're back at it starting today. (We being the both of us, Mr. Inky has about another 40 pounds to get rid of as well).
In the pet arena we have the new kitty and now a sick Boo kitty. December 31, 2008, found us at the Vet with Boo. He's had an outbreak of sores on his face and just has not been himself. Turns out he had a fever as well. So many tests later, we await news on Friday regarding his status. He's on antibiotics now for the sores, and they gave him fluids yesterday. Today he seems to be eating better. He's also been changed to a high protein diet to help him lose a few pounds (he's holding at 22.10 and he seems bigger than ever). We're all back on diets, hahaha. Bella is doing fine, though she's also on meds for a poopie parasite that was giving her the runs.
Note to self: no more pets, also change name of pets to "money pits."
2009 - Bring it on, we're ready for it.
