How To Get Knitting Ideas For Baby Boy


in today's tutorial, we're going to do apair of baby booties, and i'm going to be teaching you the three month's sizeand the pattern's available for the six and 12 month sizes as well. in today's tutorial, we are going to makethese rolled down cuff baby booties, just like you see here. we have the fullcomplete pattern, it's not a complex pattern, it's quite easy to do. we're going to be doing the cuff areahere, and then doing the baby booties. now it does have a difference of yarn,you can either choose to use, what we have is the bernat handicraftercotton or the sugar lily and cream, or

you could also use bernat satin yarn aswell, and you can see that the instructions are included with differentsizes. so you have the sizes three and then six and twelve. so whenever we go to read instructions,just like you see here, the three, this is a three month is the first number, the six month's is the second number, andthe third number there is the 12 months. and every time there is a change of size,you will see that. so in the in step here, it's miss the first seven for thefirst size, miss the first eight for the next size, and miss the next nine for the nextsize. so it gives you an idea of what to

do. so today we're going to need a fourmillimeter, size g crochet hook today and let's get started right after this. let's get started using a size g, fourmillimeter crochet hook. i am going to use bernat handicrafter yarn today and itis a cotton yarn that's kind of perfect yarn for those that are in the south,that are pretty hot temperatures. cotton really does a great job and being ableto keep babies cool when you need to be. so starting off with the slip knot onthe hook, never counts as one. we are going to chain sixteen, and we're going tocreate the cuff that is rolled down. so

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16. so now that i've got sixteen, i am going to do asingle crochet all the way to the other side. so skipping to the second chain onthe hook, so just go one and two, go to the second turn it over, get the back part of the stitch only, andjust single crochet, and single crochet all the way across back to the beginningof the chain. now that i'm all the way back to theother side, i just want to turn my work and start row number two.

so we have to create this cuff until youget six and a half inches, or six inches long for the small size, the other sizesare listed there. so what we have to do for the second row,we chain up one, and if you're new to crochet, you may not know what a front loop, backloop is. so both stitch, both strings that you see here are a stitch. if you go into the first string that'sclosest to you, that is the front loop, and if you gointo the back one that's farthest away from you, that's a back loop.

so what you have to do is, every time youturn around you have to chain up one and go into the back loop only of the stitch,and single crochet, and you were going to continue to do that. just back loop only, and this is creatingthe cuffs that you see that's within the booties. so you just need to go back and forth onthe back loops only until this particular piece measures six inches, ifyou're doing the three month sizes with me. so i will leave that with you, sojust have to keep going back and forth, and when we come back, i will have thecuff completely done, and then we'll move

on to the next part of the tutorial. iwon't have it sewn up or anything. i'll meet you back at that point as well. socontinue along and i'll see you in just a moment. so i'm coming up to the end, and thishappens to be my six inch mark of length that i measured up against, and what iwant to do now is that we need to work our way along the side of the ridge here.so it says in the pattern that we need to get twenty-three equally single crochetedspaces in here. now the thing about it is, that everyridge that you see popping out here, it represents two rows, so 1, so i got 2,4, 6,

8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 19, which means thatevery row cannot equals one single crochet each. so this means that at certain pointsi have to add an extra. so to begin to do this, okay, we need to chain up one, and we justhave to equally space twenty-three, so i'm going to go 1 and 2, and then the next onei'm going to put two into there, so 3 and 4, and then i'm going tojust keep moving along, 5, 6, 7, and the next one, i'm going to add two intothat one. 8, 9, and keep moving along, 10, 11, 12.

i'm going to add two into the next one 13and 14 and 15 and 16. i'm going to add two into the next one 17,18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23. so how did i figure that out soquickly? i have experience with crochet. so even though it's evenly spaced, thereis two in a few of those in order to bring me back to twenty-three. so let's move on and we're going to turnour work and go up and do one more row across. so we chain up one and wesingle crochet into each one of the stitches along, and then we're going tofasten off on the other side. so i'll meet you there in just a moment.

so now just come up all the way to theend, and i want to fasten off and we're just going to snip our yarn and this willconclude that. okay, so we just got to weave in yourends. just do a nice job of it. we have to move on to the next part ofthis tutorial. of course at the end, you can always hide your tails in a lotbetter with the darning needle, but i just want to get them out of my way fornow, and then move on to the next part of thistutorial. so this is what we have right here. this is the top of the boot here, itwill roll down, like so. and so, then this becomes the top of the foot area andwe're going to do that next.

so now i want to hold my project upsidedown, or to put into basically the way i was holding it before, and i want to bevery conscious of where we are at this particular point. and so when wefasten it, when we did the first row, this was the right side and then we did this.this is the wrong side. so we have to turn it back. okay, so justremember how to do that. so we have to start off by missing a certain amount ofstitches before we can join our yarn. but, i'm just going to put a slip knot on my hook and i'm going to begin to count. so it says that, says with the rightside, okay, rs, it says to join by missing thefirst seven stitches. i'm going to count.

so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. so i think i'm going to go into the eighth here. okay, so it does say that is a singlecrochet, and do a join into the next stitch. just going to join it. okay and then, and so i got a join, and then it says todo, what does it say? chain one and single crochet into the same space. got it. just like that, and then it saysto do one single crochet in the same space as the last slip stitch, which isfine, and then one single crochet in each

of the next eight and then turn. so the next eight is all going to bethis. so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. just like this. okay, so this is what wehave going on here, so this is where the instep is. sowe're going to turn our work and begin the next row. so rows two, three and four are going to be the same thing. chain up one and one single crochetacross. so please do this for rows number one, two, sorry, for two, three, and four.

okay, rows two, three, and four, just singlecrochet across and this is a row number two. please do that, and i'll meet you at theend of row number four. so i've just finished row number fourhere, so i turned my work and ready for row number five. so this is the finalpart of the top part of the instep. so what we want to do, is that we want tochain up one, and we are going to put a single crochet two together, and in thefirst one. so the first two is going to, the first stitch is just in, pull through, going into the next stitch, pull through,and then pull through all three loops. now it says to do one single crochet ineach of the next five. so 1, 2, 3,

4, and 5, leaving you with two stitches left, andyou're going to do it two together there as well. just like that. okay and what we want to doat this point, is that we want to fasten this off. so let's just trim our work outand fasten this off. this is the top of the instep. okay and you can do a better job of thatif you wish as well, and what it says to do is that we have to sew the back seam.so we're going to be able to just go along, and just come along, and sew theback seam together, so that we can do it,

like this, and i'll show you that in justa moment. so taking a darning needle what we wantto do is we want to put the same color yarn, same material, into a darning needleand we want to sew the back seam of the bootie shut. okay, so let's just create a slip knot here.i like to do that just for extra security, and what i want to do is that iwant to put the two seams together like this. and i'm going to start at thebottom here and just work my way across. so just jump in here and across, pullthrough, and pull it to get to the slip knot and slip the needle through the slip knot, like this. and i want you just

to work back through the seam, to theback of the bootie here, and just doing a whipstitch. just up and over. it helps if you trim out your otherspare yarns that you've been working with before you do this, but that's okay. soi just want to work my way up the seam. i don't want to do anything crazy likepulling it way too tight. i just want to do a nice job with the stitches and justkind of match these up as we go, and i will leave that to you and i'll seeyou at the top of this seam line. so now that i'm at the top, what i wantto do is i just want to create a little knot that's in here. so just slidethe needle underneath some fibers and

just put it through the loop like so. nowthe best way to hide the tails and that will never fall out, is that you glide the hook underneathsome fibers. don't go to the good side of thisproject. just glide in one direction and then come back and go into a differentarea, but the same path in the other direction, and then back into athird down. what happens is that the tails will never fall out, because it'sbeen wrapped perfectly each and every time. so what we want to do is that we justwant to trim this yarn now.

and this is my starting string, but thewhat we have here is on the other side, here we have the bootie itself. so let's begin. we're going to, i'm goingto leave in some of these tails that i have. going to do a nice job and theni'll meet you back and we'll continue along with the base. so this is what itskind of looking like at this moment. to begin the next part, you now got to turnit inside out. so that the seam is on the inside of the bootie. just in here, andthis is the good side that you're looking at. so if your baby is wearingthat, you're looking at the good side. so eventually what's going to happen isthat this will roll down and you have

the nice cuff area at the top of theboots. so let's begin. we're going to move downand start doing the foot next. so grabbing our yarn, what we wantto do, is we want to start crocheting around here, and we want to do it in away that the back is going to be matching the top of the instep. so let's just create a slipknot. we'regoing to join it in the back of the seam line area. okay, so we're just going to join it rightin the back. might be kind of tight there, and join. just join it in, like so, and itsays to chain two, which counts as a half

double crochet. so 1 and 2, leaving this straggler down on top ofthe line. it just as a lot easier for you to follow. so it says to put one half doublecrochet in each of the next stitches as six stitches. so if you count, there should be six stitches here. so 1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6. that is no camera trick, that is the real deal, which is hard to believefor me. so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. usually i screw up in these booties too bad as i'm fine.

so we're going to do six half doublecrochets. so 1, 2, 3, 3, and 4, 5, and 6. now it says to put in seven half doublecrochets down the side of the instep. so there should be a total of seven here.you might need to squeeze them in, so just continue to go. i'm gonna go rightin the corner here, so i'm actually going to go in the side here to 1 and 2. i'mjust equally spacing it, 3. i'm going to put another one there, 4, 5, and 6, andput another one in that is 7. so there's my seven and then it says toput in two half double crochets in the

corner. single crochet so it right inthe corner here i'm going to put two. so 1 and 2, and then it says to putfive half double crochets along the top of the instep. so there should be five there. so let'sdo this so 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 which takes me then to the next corner, and in thecorner, it's going to be two half double crochets. 1 and 2, and then we have toput another seven down the in the seam again. so we just got to equally space that. so1, going to put another one there, 2, 3,

4, 5. yep, another one there, 6, oops, thatwas supposed to be 6. 6 and the final one is 7. and then it says to put a halfdouble crochet in each of the next seven stitches. so i'm just going to count itjust for the sake of it. so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 that takes me right back to thevery beginning. so let's just do that so 1, 2, 3, 4, forthose 4, this is 5, 6, and 7 and i want to join this then to the top of the firstchain two, just like this, to pull it nice and tight together like there. okay, sothat's kind of how it looks like at this particular moment. looking pretty good, isn't it? so let's move along and second round forthe foot area. now for the second row

what we're going to do is that we aregoing to create a ridge that looks like it's part of like a sole, basically. sowe're going to count our chain two and it says to create what is called a doublecrochet back post. so each one of these stitches that we work with, we're goingto be working from the back post only. okay, so what we're going to do is thatwe are just going to insert from the back. so let's begin. so this is onedouble crochet back post in each, going all the way around. so we wrap the hook,and coming from the back, out from the side, and then back to the other side fora back post, and we double crochet. so that, and we do that for each stitchgoing all the way around. so we're not

adding any stitches or subtracting anystitches. were simply just doing a back post double crochet in each of thestitches going all the way around, and this creates a really beautiful linewhen it comes to your booties. okay, so you have a beautiful line there. so again just comefrom the back post and do a double crochet back post all the way around anddo tha,t and i'll see you at the end of this round. so you're going to come all the way backaround. i have one more left and then i'm just going to join it with a slipstitch to the top of the beginning chain

two. so here's the thing, i'm running out ofthis green, so i'm going to switch off color. so i'm going to completely fasten off at this moment. technically you wouldn't if you're going to carry on,but actually it might be a good thing, because i can make the bottom ofthe sole something completely different for different color. so i'm just going tofasten this off. you're not supposed to, but you can if you want to, because it isyour creativity. you can do what you want. so let me just grab, go to the yarncloset, and see what's there, and i'll be back, and i'll grab another color of thecotton yarn. so for round number three,

and we have to do exactly what we didand i'm going to start off with this pink. now i've seen this color combo done inboots before. looks really quite sharp, if you ask me, but that's my personalopinion. so we have to then join it to where wehave done the chaining of two last time. okay, and that's where i kind of fastened off before and we want to chain another two. so i just fastening on and then 1 and 2. so for this entire round is exactly whatwe had in the last one. so again from the

back post only, just do double crochets.and you'll do that with every stitch all the way around. so i've already shown youhow to do that. it's going to be easier to access this time around because thestitches are bigger than they were in the last round. so it's just a matter ofdoing it. okay, so back post double crochet into each,going all the way around, and i'll see you back here in just a moment. so i'm just finishing up and i'm comingall the way back around and i'm going to join it to the top of the beginningchain two. and so this is what it looks like at this moment. kinda neat.

so let's begin. we're going to go withfourth round. and the fourth round we're going to start getting smaller as we startcreating the bottom of the sole. okay, so let's begin. we're going to chainone and it says single crochet two together over the first two stitches. soin the first step, we're going to yarn over, pull through,and in the second stitch, yarn over, pull through. you'll have three loops on your hook.you're going to pull through all three. okay, now it says to do fourteen single crochetsin a row. so we're going to count these out, so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,

9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. so now, what we have, is that we have toput in a single crochet two together. and we have to do that one in the next one.so the next two are together, so just put them, to put them together. the next oneis a single crochet by itself, and then the next one is together as well. so whatyou're just going to do is you're going to single crochet yourself all the wayback to the back of the heel, but in the final two stitches, you're going to putthe last two together. okay, so make sure you do that. so we're justsingle crocheting. so you could either count it, but because i told you that, youcan just simply just single crochet

yourself all the way to the back of theboot, and the final two stitches will be together. okay, so i got two stitches left here, sojust in, pull through, in, pull through, make them together, and then just join itto the beginning with a slip stitch. okay, so let's begin the next row. begin rownumber five. we're going to chain one and put the first two together. so in the first one, pull through, nextone, pull through. okay, so the first two are together, and nowit says that we need to count twelve this time. so 1, so twelve single crochets in arow. so that was 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,

6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, and now the next two together. so just put the next two together. okay, the next one is a single crochet andthen the next two are together. so these two are together now and now wejust have to single crochet ourselves all the way back to the start again, and the final two are going to be two together at the end. so you notice how i count when i get tothe halfway spot where i know, i know i have to put those two together, but knowing that i'm coming back to theback of the heel i'm basically i'm just

relying on instinct and orders insteadof having to count. okay, so here we go we have the last twostitches to be put together and i think that was the last one right there. so the last two are right here, and then we just join it to thebeginning single crochet that we started with, just like there. okay so that's whatit looks like so far. let's move along to round number six.round number 6, we just have one more round after this, but let's begin roundnumber 6 we're going to chain one. the first two are together and so we'rejust going to put the two together, just

like that, and it says for number six, there's gonna be ten now, so in a row, so1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 and the next two are together. so let's put thosetogether. the next one is a single crochet, and then the next two aretogether. just like there and then the rest of them are all just going to be singlecrochets all the way back and the final two will be two together. so what we're doing is we're creatingthe underside of the sole. we just have one more round left and then we justhave to sew the seam line at the bottom out the stock, of the bootie.

so we're coming back to the start. wejust got to keep an eye on where we are. the last two are going to be together. so here's together and then just join itto the first one. tip so let's move along and we're going to round number seven,the final round of these booties for today. so the final round, we're going to chainup one. the first two are together and for number seven, we have to crochet foreight in a row for the next, so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, and then the next two are to ourseven and then eight, sorry and then the next two are together andthen the one next one is by itself and

then the next two are together, like that,and then the rest of them all the way to the back is going to be one singlecrochet with the exception to the final. tthe final two have to be together as well.so this concludes on how to do this particular bootie we're going to do theseam line at the bottom of the of the bootie where we're going to bring ittogether. so we're just looking for the very end here. okay, so one and put those two together andthen just join it to the beginning. so what i would do is not fasten of this yarn like really short, just leave it so you can run the darning needle throughit, and what i would do that as well, is

that we should turn this booie insideout and make sure the seam goes on the inside. so let's turn the bootie inside out sothat the seam will be on the inside of the bootie. okay, so we just gotta put a sewingneedle through here and just bring this okay, so let's do that next. so we're goingto put a darning needle onto this strand and we're going to sew it shut. so the trick is is that when you go todo this you want to kind of make it look as close as you can to the to being theright shape and so you just want to go

back and forth with the whip stitch,along both sides of the seam. now babies, they can put their feet up in the airquite a bit so you kind of want to be conscientious of how you're doing the bottom of the bootie. you know other mothers will judge. youknow it is, we're not supposed to but we okay, so we're just going to just whipstitch our way across the bottom to bring the seam shut. it's kind of like the icing on the cake. it's kind of like the finishing touches,you feel like you got something done. and

so you just gonna have to repeat thisfor a second pair. just watch your counts. if you'refollowing the pattern, it just makes it a lot easier. i had a history and when i first startedcrocheting is that my booties were never the same size. (laughing) okay, so we're just coming up all the wayand i'm just finishing up. so i want to come in and i want to just tie a littlebit of a knot with the yarn strand and you don't want your tails coming out, sothe secret to doing that is that if you put your hook in or your needle in, inone direction,

pull through, and through a differentpath but in the other direction and then a different path into that of anotherdirection, is that you'll never have the tails falling out of your work. so we can just simply just clean up thework, like that. just get rid of all these loose littletails. i'm just going to trim this oneafterward and i'm going to turn it back to the way it should be, and let's give it a brief inspection. okay, so here's what it would look like andyou can roll down the booties

How To Knitting Pattern Baby Sweater


[music playing] simple gifts hi. my name is cheryl brunette and thank you forstopping by my knitting channel where you will find tips and techniques complete workshops and answers to your most perplexingsweater questions. today i want to do three things. first, i want to show you how to knit thisgarter stitch mitered square.

it's not the only way to make miteredsquare but it is one that i like because it isvery simple, it is impressive when it is done, and onceyou get past the first row, he cast on and first row, and mark the central stitches, it is automatic pilot knitting. and every once in a while i like that inmy life. second, i am going to show you how to join them as you knit

so that you could make a blanket thathad a hundred of these squares and never have to sew a single seam. you would do it as you went along. and third, i want to mess with your medial prefrontal cortex. which is the place that lights up whenyou change a belief. as for example if you go from

"oh man, that baby is coming in five months. i had better find a pattern." to . . . " well, maybe i don't really need a pattern. maybe i can do this," to . . . "i do not need a pattern. it isjust a blanket." so let us begin with the mitered square. in order to make it you need to know how to do four things:

how to count, how to do a long tailed cast on, how to form a knit stitch, and how to make a double decrease. andi am going to show you two techniques for that last skill. so let us get started. garter stitch is a perfect fabric fora square because it has a square gauge. the width of one stitch

is pretty regularly equal to theheight of two rows. you can make these out of any weight yarn with appropriate size needles. today i am using worsted weight yarnand a pair of size 8 needles. to begin, use a long tail cast on to cast on an even number of stitches plusone. notice i did not say an oddnumber of stitches. we will revisit this later. i have twenty-one stitches here.

then we follow a simple two row repeat. row one, which is a wrong side row,is simply knit all the way across except we are going to mark the center three stitches.to find the center three stitches take your total number of stitches, mine is twenty one today minus the three in the center gives me eighteen. and then you divide that number by two.

i get nine. so i work nine stitches before i place the first marker. then i work the center three stitches and place the second marker. thenthere should be nine stitches left. it does not matter how many stitches you have. this is the way you get that number. seven, eight, nine . . . place your first marker.

knit three . . . and place your second marker. and finish up that row. now we are ready to start row 2, a rightside row. we are going to knit it and combine these three center stitchesinto one. i am going to show you two different waysto do this and they look a little bit different. the easiest way

is simply to knit all three of thosestitches together, and this is what you get. it is a nice diagonal. it is maybe not exactly onthe diagonal. but it is still really handsome and serviceable. this is the other method which usesthe center stitch. we are going to slip a couple ofstitches as if to knit, one stitch, and then do some pass over. this is a little bit more centered thanthis other one.

but it is also bumpier. this one lies alittle bit flat. it is strictly personal preference as towhich one you would like to use but i am going to show you both. we will start with the knit three together. first you knit up to the three centerstitches. notice these markers . . . you will know when you come up to threestitches that you are on a right-side row. you just pass that marker over and knit all three of them together.

it is a little bit tight sometimes. here we are again at the same middlethree stitches and i am going to show you the other double decrease. it is where you slip two together asif to knit. move the marker. slip but do not work them. then knit the next stitch and pass these two stitches

over that knitted stitch. slip your marker and continue. you can see how this particular one brings that center stitch to the center of that decrease. as i approach the end here, i almostdo not need these markers anymore because i can just see how many stitches i havebut

i will just show you how i have been moving them. i take that one off, move it back one stitch. i will confess to you that the way my arms are,knitting this, it is not my most comfortableposition, but i want you to get good close-ups. let me put that one back on. i lose a few markers, let metell you. this is why i like it with that centerstitch because now

when i come back i see three and i knowi have to knit those three together, whereas if i just have an even number of stitches with a marker in between them then i have to count my rows. i have to figureout where i am and sometimes i just like some pretty mindless knitting. that knit three together, which is whati have been doing here is pretty tight sometimes. knit two . . . okay

i am going to get rid of the markers now.i only have five stitches left. and this much i can remember, that this is a wrong side row. i will get rid of that marker. and that marker. and knit three together on this row. this is my penultimate decrease row.

this is a little bit distorted because it is on straight needles, but once it has been off theneedles for a while it will come right into a square shape. we do knit this last wrong side row. and then the very last row, knit three together. let me break this off. rather than pull this thread throughthe loop like i ordinarily would

i just pull through like that. it is a little bit better corner. ok and it will bring itself back into shape before very long. okay. now that it is at this point you have a couple of choices as to whereyou want to build

on to this square. you can start over here and attach a square over here. so you could in my case cast on ten stitcheswith a long-tail cast on. then i would pick up one rightin that corner, and i would pick up ten more stitchesall the way up and that would give me twenty-one stitches. but for today

i am going to pick up this one and go up. it does not matterwhich one you make next, but you can see that withthis one you pick up stitches first and then i am going to cast on. i cannot use a long-tail cast on here so i am going to show you a different cast on. we want a total of eleven stitchesbefore we start casting on. so where are we going to find them? there is one. there is two.

we are looking for what appears to be little knots. three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. there is numbereleven. so we are going to insert in this littleknot right here. you can insert in different places when youare picking up these stitches, but the most important thing isto be consistent. there is a little knot, then there is a ditch. i prefer to pick up in these little knots.

and the reason is that i like what it lookslike on the wrong side. so, right there. that little guy. i am pretty close on this. i am hoping you can see. right there. you have like a front stitch. and a back stitch, and then this littleknot in between.

and really, if you pick up in that back stitch, itlooks almost the same. and it is a little bit easier. so you get to determinewhere this is. there is that little knot right there,sticking out. often it just sticks out for you. it is the first one you meet. sometimes these rows want to fold in on you and so you

just have to pay attention. just stop and count to make sure youget a right number. sometimes i get it wrong. two, four, six, eight, nine. there is my ten. see how thatone is kind of going off in that direction? here is my number ten. i was telling a friend the other day that i think i learned to count by twos beforei learned to count by ones because my mother was always counting her stitches.

then at the very end here, this iswhere the cast on was. just find a loop in there and use it. because that is your corner stitch. and i am going to show you what this looks like when i flip it over. see how neat that is? you can barely tell that it has been picked up. let me giveyou a good shot of that. the contrast colors are not too strong

but they look like they have just beenknit together. okay so here we are. we are going to go up in this directionbut, i cannot do a long-tail cast on because i do not have a tail. so i am going to cast on instead with a knitted cast on. i have to do it from the back because i am building off in this direction. there are a couple of ways to do this but this is my preferred way to stick the needle between two stitches, knit it. now look at how i am twisting it

and put it on the needle. also lookat the size of that loop. that is like a double size loop that i have on there. that is because what i am building is is an edge that has a loop that goes this way and a loop that goes up. 0:12:44.090,0:12:48.640let us do it again.go between those two stitches, pull a nice long loop, come over on this side of the stitch to give it a twist. the reason i am knitting between stitchesand not into the stitches is

because i think thisgives a much nicer, firmer more rope-like edge thanknitting right into the stitch. i hope i am showing you slowly enough. this is the piece you need to catch . . . come under and get the loopfrom that side. knit between the stitches. pull it off, pivot it,

come around like that. see what a nice edge that gives you? how many do we have here?two, four, six, eight. see? that loop needs to be nice and long.i made that a little bit tight. i want to get between those two stitches. i think i split my yarn there. okay, so there we have it. we have our twenty-one stitches. we do not want this to be too tight. we want this to give us a good edge,

not a tightened edge. this is going to be our right side. and now, again, our first row is going to be a wrong side row. so . . . you are back to your two row pattern. once you know how to knit them, and join them while you are knitting, that is when the fun begins. remember when i told you to choose aneven number plus one?

that is because the even number that youchoose and then you add that one stitch that becomes the decrease stitch in the center . . . that number, the even number, is the onethat determines whether or not you have a ton of design possibilities or whether or not they are more limited. let us look at some numbers. this is the schematic that lion brandput out for that afghan that i am making, except this is a schematic for crochet. i did not enjoy crocheting the squares,so instead, i chose to knit them.

but i had to make up my own number ofstitches and i just tried to guess. i wanted it about forty eight to fiftyinches wide. i had a good guess. i cast on a hundred stitches plus one for my big squares, so i havefifty and fifty . . . and then on my small squares i have twenty-five and twenty-five, againagain with that center stitch. but let us look at some other numbers. once i started playing with some othernumbers i saw some interesting things.

i chose one hundred but what if i had chosen ninety eight as my number? that would be 98 total which would be 49 in thisdirection, 49 in this direction and, of course, myone extra one so that would be 99 stitches. i can not divide 49 evenly in half so i just have one size of box i can work with. i could also workwith sevens like work with a

whole bunch of 7 times 7 boxes, but that does not sound like a whole lot of fun. so then i tried 104. if you have a 104 stitchesyou get 52 in this direction, 52 in this direction. and there is your extra one so that you actually havea hundred and five. well, i can dividethat a couple of times. i can divide into twenty-six.

and i can divide it again into thirteen. these are all quarters of one another. so in this case i am picking up 105 stitches. this is 53 stitches,and this is 27 stitches. but you know what the magic numberturned out to be? the number was 96. if i am going to do thisagain i am going to use 96 and the reason is this: you start with 48

on a side. it is just the versatility that is so much fun. you actually cast on 97 because there is your center row. but then you candivide it into 24 . . . 12 . . . 6 . . . and then, the other magic piece comes . . . 16 also goes into 48 threetimes. then you can have some that are 16 stitches on the side (always you are adding that extra onestitch, right? and then it goes to 8, so look at the different sizesof blocks you can have.

i got out some graph paper and i encourage youto do it too, and made these blocks 48 stitches on a side. each littlesquare is worth eight stitches, so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. and you can go on forever, and i juststarted playing with the different size blocks that i could use. some ofthem could be the full 48 stitches, and remember, always you have got that onemore stitch. that is 48 plus 48

plus the center one, plus thecenter one. these are just the sides that i am defininghere but i would love to play with all these different possibilities. get out your colored pencils, and play with them. the only problemthat i can see with this is when you have to pick up that extracorner stitch, so that actually your you arecoming in to get 25. but usually you can squirrel in there and just find that extra stitch. you are finding some extrastitches: 1, 2, 3, 4 in this case,

so that is pretty dramatic. one, two, three,in this case. but you are just turning a corner, andyou should be able to play around. it really is not rocket science and as longas it looks good it is just fine. so i encourage you toplay with this one. there we have it, a simple littlesquare that can be a stepping stone for you to design colorful, interesting, and easy to makeblankets and afghans and shawls, and you are officially declared

be a deep-dive level 400session on troubleshooting, mostly config manager. but lots of stuff we'll do heretoday is also very applicable to your standard lite-touch deployment. so we ask the curious question, how many of you are usingconfig manager in this room? that's about everybody. >> [laugh]>> you still assume, at least, most of you are alsousing lite-touch, not for

production deployment but also forbuilding reference images. so we'll touch a littlebit on that as well. >> and we will also do demos,both in lite-touch and configuration manager. and the reason why we do a lot ofdemos in lite-touch is because it's faster. it is the exact same way it's gonnawork in configuration manager, it's just to shortendown the demo time. it's the same taskssequence engine basically.

>> i am the clicker. so my work forthe entire session is to do this? >> yes. and you do it so well. >> [applause]>> thank you so much. >> as i mentioned this isa troubleshooting session, this is a deep live session, we assume thatwe have used this stuff before. so, we'll use notepad, sothe in-command prompts and powershell prompts, sowe hope you won't be afraid of that.

next. so, starting off,debugging config manager things. everyone who's been doing any typeof troubleshooting in config manager knows that it's the logfiles that you turn to. since 2012, microsoft kindly added in cmtraceright into the boot image. so that's the premiere utility,unless your name is wally, then use another utility. but cmtrace is the one youuse to read the log file.

it's real time, it's updated, it'sformatting them well and simple. it's good stuff. >> how many times doyou get the question? i had the following issue yada,yada, yada. and your reply is can yousend me the log files? >> about every single time. >> and then the other guy sayswell i don't have the log files. in that case the answeris i can't help you. >> so the interesting thingabout the log files is

they are in different locationsdepending on when it fails. i'll come back to that in a bit. also, the default or the main log file in config manageris the smts log file. and even though microsoft alreadyback in r2sp1 actually increased the size of it,from one megabyte to two megabytes, it still scenarios because of thedefault settings in config manager where debug logging actuallyis enabled for some reason. i don't know, but it is.

it generates a lot of data. easily five, six megs of data. and if you think of the numberfive and six, and you try to fit that amount of data into a twomeg container, it's challenging. >> [laugh]>> slightly. >> yeah, math. >> [laugh]>> but anyway, i'll talk later moreabout that shortly. so next slide please.

so, we do have otheroptions available as well. every now and then when you do things the sequencewill start to do its actions and every now and then it willreport back to the site server. send upstatus messages,not super detailed, but sometimes good enough tohelp you troubleshoot. and you can view thatinformation in reports, there are a bunch of progressreports in config manager. there is also, you can createqueries directly to those status

messages inside the console, so youcan get the information there, too. of course you can alsoenable server site logging. that's available both for andconfigmgr, lite-touch and config manager and when you do that,if something fails, well the log files willbe copied to the server. and not only the smst log files,everything else as well. the logic of the script that doesthis is actually smart enough to reach into your machine. and grab every possible log fileit can think of to help you debug.

so, for example, if the sequencepassed the step that does driver injection,you will actually see the log file, log file that will help youdebug drivers on the server. in the folder wherethat computer name is. that will be log file. that can help you debugyour domain operations, assuming it actually came tothat point in the sequence. so it grabs some 20 filesfrom you machine and puts them in a folder on the serverso you can easily debug those.

next slide, please. >> how do you turn that on? >> how do i turn that on? i will absolutely show youhow to turn that on in a bit. good question. the second thing is wellthe log files will only be there assuming we canactually start deployment. and it happens every now andthen that you have a machine, you press f12, or you press enter ifit's a uife machine to pxe boot and

then it doesn't pxe boot. it will just give you like abortpxe and it dies immediately. so that point the log file on theclient doesn't really help because we don't have any at that point. we are still just dead as the water. the machine is basically nothingis running on that box, so slide. so. >> says demo. >> says demo.>> and your number?

>> seven? >> seven. >> very nice. very nice. so i am going to start a non-pxedeployment first for a reason. i'm going to starta lite-touch deployment. so i will go to a clean vm. that is configuredto boot from an iso. it should start pretty quickly.

the reason i'm using lite-touchis that they are special. when you start the lite touch bootimage, it actually kicks off a small wizard that drives youthrough the deployment. you can automate thatfully of course, but what is it in the boot imagethat actually starts this? why is this happening because if yougo into adk and you create yourself a custom boot image and you bootit in a vm or a physical box. i promise you it will do nothing. it will give you a commandprompt and it's black and

it will do nothing. so why is that this guy didsomething in this case presented a list of sequences to me. >> [inaudible]>> boot strap, yes, but that's later. if i open up the command prompt and i adjust the font size a little bit,and the colors a little bit. in the root of that boot image,there is an unattend file. if i open that unattend file,you can see it's actually

set in the screen resolution, whichworks great in biospace machine. not sogreat on utf-8 based machines. you can see that actuallylaunching a script. that's why it stops the wizard. this script, yes, reads the bootstrap in the file andtried to figure out what to do. but this is why the bootimage does something at all. and this is useful forconfig manager. in a few customer environmentsalready both for 1511,

both for 1602 and both for1606 versions of config manager. i have seen an interestingerror happening. this is my blog,this is the error you might see. it complains about not finding anetwork adapter, and you press that failed to do the ip conflict andthere is a network adapter. and you can see just youget this immediately. it's not like even tryingto find a network adapter. so this is obviously a bug,but to fix is so easy. create an attempt file.

put it in the boot image,in the root of the boot image, and it will actually run even beforethe pre-start command in configmgr. which is needed to work aroundthis issue with networks. i have seen this twice onconference networks too, because they often are. less maintain than the normalcorporate network. so i wrote this scriptthat i'm very proud of. lot of work. >> [laugh]>> thank you.

>> [inaudible]>> yes, i do. i do. but simple i gave this moretime to do its business. and that's all the problem forall those networks, every single one of them. so, if you do run into that issue,remember that, yes, you can put them ona tenant file in the root. you can have that to calla script to do something. i've seen other customers doingthis to actually clean up disk,

that may have been usingsay that part of this. on the box andthen i want to go bit logger. so i will try bare metal deployment. and the config manageraction will try to start to do its business offormatting drives. and sometimes it gets upset if thereis third party disc encryption on the box. but if you clean it first,problem goes away. so that's one way of doing it.

and, let me just doublecheck these guys, so, we assume we reboot we will get thelog files, so i will stop this vm. and i will toss my mdt serverbecause i'm going to do a pixie boot and my mdt server isalso a pixie server, and i don't know if you tried, buthaving multiple pixie servers on the same subnet at the same time isinteresting because they will fight. so i will take a normal vm,generation 2 vm. and i will pixsalute this guy. press enter, it will start todownload the boot image, and

what can you do tospeed up that process? well, this morning i stumbleacross this blog post. mr. jurgen nielson fellow swede. this is new in config manage 1606. that will help you even in other virtualization platformsin hyper v to get the speed when you're flexible todownload boot images that way. because this one up here has beenaround for a long, long time. but this one is new.

i can actually help mitigatesome of those long down times of downloading boot images. this varies with hardware. typical, i've been very successfulby setting this to eight in most environments. set for pro books, but you can often increase it tosomething higher than that. so anyway, the machine pxe bootedand i can start to log in. now when i press enter hereafter typing in the password,

it's gonna contact the site serverand it's gonna look for policies, deployments for this machine. if you are on slow networks, really high latency networks,this may time out on you. and you would get an error messagesaying, sorry, no policies for you. but first of all, it could actually be that youdon't actually have a deployment. so how do youtroubleshoot that part? how do you know alreadyat the pxe boot

if the machine will havea deployment or not. sms takes a long time to sort. so, if i go to my site server, go into my installation directoryconfig manager, while you have it. please don't type it on the c-drive. the inboxes are in that folder. and they can be full ifsomething goes wrong. and then it's bad ifit's on the c drive. so i open the pixel log file.

and you can actually see here inpretty much clear text that okay, i've had here. it tried to boot. that machine foundan option on advertisement. it was this sequence orthis advertisement for the, i'm sorry, deployment. i don't know what icall it advertisements. but, it actually founda boot eventually and it handed up bootdown to the client.

this is how you can seewhat's actually going on on the service side. now, what to do ifit takes too long? well, there are variables youcan set to give it more time. and obviously you can set thosevariables in the sequence because we haven't yetstarted the sequence. the problem we are having iswe don't see any sequences. let me see variables here,wrong one. these guys.

that's the script. there is, here we go. i don't need to send those guys. so these are the variables. i simply have a vb scriptthat sets them, easy. and. i call the script through the normalprestart command in config manager. again, giving it more time. this one you will not like tocall from another ten file.

the reason is you need to callit from the prestart command, otherwise you don't havethe environment up and running. but again, this is easy. i haven't documentedawhile on my blog. but this is something you can do togive it more time at deployment. but i will select the sequence andi will continue. to start to form at the diskonce to state your packet and then it'll continue anddo its business. in this case, it's actuallygoing on a pause after a while.

and this is something that is reallyuseful when debugging things. in my sequence on the site serverhere, let me pick that one. if i edit that, you will see, that here i added a pause. i added it directly after we triedto format the desk the first times. so in this scenario i wastroubleshooting disk partitioning, something happened, i added a pauseto the sequence that's actually bordered to that point,and at that time, i can now just opena command prompt.

press f8. run this part. try to partition the disk manually. verify that you actuallyhave a driver for it. and not only just clean it andcreate a partition, but actually format the partitionas well, because sometimes you can create a partition but it'sthe format action that will fail. and when you run that interactively,wow, sometimes you will see things that you don't do when you justhave the sequence engine running.

and at that point, i mean, if youplace a support call with microsoft, it doesn't really matter whatdeployment solution you're using. you can just tell them flat out, i'mstarting on a windows pe boot image. i cannot run this part andcreate the partition. and there will be much easier for them to help you troubleshoot thatprocess also through support. but anyway, to go back to my client, it should now have reachedthe point where it's pausing. this was actually slightlyharder to code this script

because it was severallines of code. so i put that scriptin my mdt package, and that's something i recommend to do. every custom script that youguys use in your sequences, put them in the mdt package. why? because it's always there. they always statethat packet on disc, you always have thosefiles available to you.

that's why you see inthe sequence many, many, many times there is a usefulkit package option. this is where they make sure thatthose files are available to you. so if i go into the scriptsfolder here, cdi pause win p. this is it. this is just a script thatis looking for a text file. and as long as that textfile doesn't exist, it will just wait, loop and wait. >> sohere's a good question for you.

that assuming that you integratemdt with configuration manager. >> yes?>> yes, there is always someone thatsays i don't wanna do that. and because we don't needthat extra functionality, but we don't really have that approach. it's not the functionality, we wantto have a deployment framework, and a good starting point isto have that toolkit. so even if you are using a nativeconfiguration manager sequences, you can still include this package, justto have all the scripts available.

>> i mean, you can viewmdt as a bag of candy or stuff that you really, really like. you pick the stuff that you likethe most, and you use that. yes, because that packet containssome 200 plus features for os deployment,you don't have to use all of them. and i know very few customerswho uses all of them. but you pick the stuff you like. and the framework fordevelopment is just one of them. >> so anyway, i will press f8,i will get a command prompt.

i will do the sameoperation here again, to make it slightly more visible. at this point, i can open cmtrace. obviously, i can go to the defaultlog location in the beginning, where it is the windows10 folder on the x drive. and i can open sql's log engine. and i can follow mydeployment from here. if i want to, i can also gointo my c drive in this case. it doesn't have to be the c drive.

it could be e, f, something. because drive letters inwindows p are temporary. it's not the same as windows 5,it will actually be installed to eventually, but in here,i will have a wd package folder. i will also have the normal packagesfolder to which the sequence downloads all its packageseventually, but this one is special. this one is the mdt package. so here, i can go to the scriptsfolder, and i can run, for example, a script that will enumerate

all the settings that i havecurrently in my sequence. and just dump them up to the screen,or preferably, how about pipe this to a text file,and open that text file in notepad. because now i can start to drilldown and see all of my variables. you can see that i have inthis sequence done something i highly recommend. i have added a variableto increase the timeout. so if i go to my sequence andcheck at the beginning of it,

i have added this one tochange the default timeout from 15 minutes into 24 hours. so if something breaks,i will actually know about it. so i don't miss it accidentallyjust because i left the room when i started the deployment. i will also add in another onethat you can see on that list, and that's this one, reboot when done. this, i would say, is critical formost config manager environments. and i can see that on the client.

i do have an smstpostaction. this is something that happenswhen the sequence is done. and i use this to forcea group policy refresh. because the normal config managersequence was suppress all good policy processingwhen it's running. but sometimes, you do want to applypolicies when you're done with it, and forcing a reboot, this,well, will refresh the policy. other things you can work on is,of course, following this information ordoing this from the service side.

check this stuff ormost of this stuff. so you do have the serviceside log in i mentioned. and this is really tricky toenable that was requested before, how do i enable this? well, you go into settings package,that you have a new sequence. and you simply add a one-liner. this is one of the 200 plusfeatures that the mdt gives you, server side log in forconfig manager. so when you enable this,if something goes wrong,

it will create a subfolder foreach computer that you deploy and copy all the log filesto that folder, so you can easily debug it,very, very handy. now another thing you can dowith this is also, of course, check it through the reports. so i will cancel this sequence. i will go back to mymonitoring node, no thank you. i will go to, my deployments. progress of a running sequencedeployment, i will run that report.

it can also use the browserto run the report. i will select my deployment,it was my debug sequence. thank you. and i can now see that so far, it'sactually been doing some stuff here. you can start to track to see whatthe sequence did and when it did it. so you have some information aboutwhat's going on somewhat real time. it's still not every step, but allthe actions in the sequence at least is being reported back this way. back in cmos 7,

i really like the way it wasby default because in cmos 7, that was ready made status messagenote to find deployment info. and they kind of removed that fromconfig manager, which made me sad. but it's not that hardto create your own ones. so here, i've created a query,where if you look at the code here, it's a bit messy, but, it's coming. i'm basically looking forstatus messages that belongs for my deployment. and if you search forthis out there,

you'll find plentyof examples of this. but now i can run that query. i can specify forhow long back, a day or two. and you wait patiently,that's you do. but here you see, i have a statusmessage from that computer, and we start to look into the details. you will actually seeadditional information about everything thatwas happening here, and sometimes that can give you someclues as well to debug things.

the nice thing, this is serviceside, you don't have to be on that client, we could be in anotherstate, in a different country. so, this is useful as well. what you also can doin config manager is, there are filter rolesthat you can enable. so if you go to your site,you have your status filter rules. and you can create your own ones,osd happiness. what's the code for happiness? could be 42, yes, but

in this case, it is 11171. and if it's happiness, you canlaunch a program that sends an email with a green logo on it andsay, yay. you can also do the opposite whichis probably more interesting. you can search for non happiness,utterly failure, which is this error code or status matches thatyou can do something else. and now the side service is keepingtrack of your deployments and sends you an email when stuffis good and when stuff is bad. or creates a ticket in help desk,do something.

but this is also quite powerfulto do in config manager. so one final thing, though,that log file i mentioned, the size of it i spent an afternoon,a friday afternoon, deploying windows as youdo on friday evenings. i probably had a beer in my hand,and i ran through deployments. with every single combination oflog setting that was in configmgr just to see what difference itwould be on the log file and the i compare the log files. and it turn out that inconfig manager by defaults

since debug loggingis actually enabled. you'll get more content, i mentioned this before than youhave in your log files size. so again,2 mb on one archive makes 4 mb, it's still less than five or six. so you have two options,either you simply increase the size, in this case to 16 mb. and i only do this rightnow in the windows pe part, because in deployment that'sactually where most errors happen.

i can do it for windows also, by changing the properties of theconfig manage agent in the sequence, but this is often all i need. and since i have it to 16 mb, i don't really need to havemuch of a history of it. i'd rather have everythingin one file than two files. because if i do 10 deployments and it creates two archive, two logfiles from those 10 deployments, i would open the wrongone 10 times in a row.

you never pick the right one,it's simple as murphy's law. and what you also cando is simply disable debugging, and i'm not surewhy it's owned by default. my theory is that a developerenabled it eight years ago. >> [laugh]>> and it's been stuck since. but that's just a theory,not confirmed with the product team. but the thing is,here are two log files. one that has debugging enabled. the other one have it disabled.

and what i've found so far, this often gives meenough to debug things. and when you do that, the logfiles are indeed only 1 to 2 megs. and it actually workswith the default setting. so shorthand story, to get thisgoing, you create an ini file. to make sure it's a boot image. i mean in later releases of configmanager, you can simply place this small file on the side server, thatwill be added to the boot image. previous verses you have toadd it to boot image yourself.

it was very easy. you connected alwaysto injector file, you can simply copy it fromthe windows folder, the boot image. if you do that once,then you're happy. so this is how you can make surethis stuff is easy to debug and easy to work with. now, back to slides>> what? slides. >> [laugh] >> i can do slides.

so you talked about drivers then,right? >> so drivers is still the part of operatingsystem deployment that i find very. >> fun. because it's always thisbattle between me and machine, i usually wins. otherwise, you can alwaysthrow away the machine and say, hey, it doesn't work. but we have different drivers.

and the first driver we reallyneed to make sure it works, is the windows pe driver, right? i can see customers say,hey there's new drivers for windows pe should i downloadthem and install them? no. you shouldn't. but they are new. yeah. but you shouldn't.

unless you need to. so the question is, when do youreally need to have a driver? well, we're gonna cover that. then we have the setup phase,and sometimes we are into a small slightly challenging issueis that you injected the right, right orjust windows picks another one and you go hey i didn't tell you to dothat, and then you try it again and it's like hey it's stillpicking the wrong one. i'm gonna cover that, and

then we have drivers thatcan't be installed as drivers. i mean,they're always going to be there, you can get it to bekind of installed. so there's a driver but,when you try to use the function, or the application it doesn't work. eventually, you've got tofigure out the following. needs to be installedas an application. there's no way around this,and that's fine. i do understand that sometimesyou need to do that.

so and if you get an ip address, you don't need a network driver,it's very simple. you have one that works. >> [laugh]>> but then, we need to verify that you have access to the disksubsystems, so this part it is. and, this needs>> you have to spell it also. >> yeah, i know. it doesn't have the automaticspelling thing for me. in this part did you.

list disk, disk. yeah and hey i have a drive. so then i'm fine. no you're not fine. because this is verygood as a starting point. but you really need to do this. select disk zero, clean, create partition primary, assign, active,>> and format.

>> format, fs. >> we really don'tneed to the assign and active, michael was just doingthat to show off right now. >> [laugh]>> but there is one they are doing it. >> you need to format the drivebecause we've been through that, it can really see the drive butwhen it comes to the action of creating the partitionof formatting, it fails. so this is not very fine.

i don't need drivers. okay? these are hardest usually tofind the disk subsystem driver because in most cases it's a clientworkstation, it's gonna be either built in or it's goingto be the generic set of drives. but when it comes to network,it's slightly more challenging. what we're gonna see people dosometimes, i don't recommend it, is to find every piece ofnetwork driver you have and cram it into your boot image.

wait for a long time andthen hope it's gonna work. >> right, that's sofar is about a gig. i've seen it at oneside of a boot image. >> the hoping thingdoesn't really fly for me, so>> i prefer to do it this way. let's assume i don'thave an ip address, but i expect these followingdrivers to be the right one. put them on a usb stick. right, or?...

>> or floppy? >> [laugh]>> anybody seen a floppy? and then you use an applicationcalled drb load. and then you specify. >> the driver. and i cheated. i put it on my boot image. and you point an imf file andyou load the drivers. and then you need to reboot.

>> nope. >> no, you don't need to reboot. you run the wpe in itto kick it off again. and now, you can do the same thing. ip config. did i get an ip address? and you do this until youfind e driver that works. then you use that driver,it's very important that you're minimalistic when itcomes to driver windows pe,

because when you add a driveryou might lose support for another piece of hardware thatyou use in your organization. because it has been updated and been replaced and it doesn'twork with all the hardware. so even if it's possible to downloadan entire cad file with windows pe drivers don't do that, pickthe exact driver you wanna have. i know it takes some time,but usually takes me half an hour to figure out whatdriver i need for windows pe. now that was windows pe.

then we have drivers for windows. >> then we have drivers for windows. we can go to the device manager andwe can see that hey, i have a display driver here. it's an nvidia card,and that's pretty nice. and in this case it didpick the right driver. now, the problem with pickingthe right driver is that, i wouldn't say problem. the challenging is that microsoftis using plug and play.

sometimes call them plug andpray, but that's another story. its based on ranking. so its gonna, its gonna grab all thedrivers that you downloaded to you machine and say hey,here is all the drivers, stage them. absolutely and then windows willfile up they gonna say hey, im gonna pick one of these. how many of you have kids? multiple kids. there's one thing as a parent you dowants when you have multiple kids.

it's that, going to the kids and ask them what they wouldlike to have for dinner. [laugh] because if youhave multiple kids, you'll gonna get multiple answer. eventually, as a parent, you learn the fact that it's mucheasier that you pick the food. and then you say dinner is served. it will be meatballs. >> yeah.>> and then one of the kids say,

i don't want to have that. well, that's the onlything you're going to get. and they will eventually acceptthe fact and have the meatballs. and you need to treatwindows the same way. you need to feed windows withthe one and only driver, and windows is going to be happy andsay, hey, i found one. [laugh] i will use that. >> it's the best. >> it's the best ofevery one i used.

now, ahhm the ranking system. it has been around forever. ahhm, but you can search forwhy did windows 7 pick that driver? >> [laugh]>> and then you're gonna find a blog post that explains that. if you zoom in here this isa part of the set up api.dev.log. you can see here it actuallydid find two drivers. here's one and here's the other one. and, of course, pick that one.

>> of course, it's the best. >> because it's the best. it says->> from a ranking point of view. >> selecting best. >> yeah, exactly. and the reason why i fixthat is because it's best, because it has the best ranking. now ranking is dividedin multiple numbers. the first two characters stand forsignature code.

that means that the unsigneddriver will never ever be picked. there is no way is unsigned,is gonna lose. >> on windows 10 in general, thatdoes not like outside drivers, so. >> and sometimes youreally need to have an on sign driver because that'sthe only option you have. that is the correct driver. you can turn to the vendors, you'regonna say hey i need a sign driver and they're gonna golike hmmppf [laugh] so then you need to cosign driver,and that used to be very simple,

because you can create basicallya self-signed certificate. that doesn't fly anymore. so you need to havea real certificate, but you can do cosigning of drivers. but you should go to the vendor andsay, hey i really need this. driver to be signed. if you can't go the vendor and get help, go to microsoft andtell them to go to the vendor. they are slightly bigger than you,most of you anyway, ahhmm and

they have really good lawyers, sothey can help you in that way. >> i think the engineer isthe right word developers. >> yeah butyou really want something done lawyers actually works better. >> [laugh]>> taking notes. >> the next run says forfeature score. and this is how forinstance intel drivers are pick instead of the inbox driverit's the same driver, it has the same ranking, it has thesame feature, well that's the trick.

they're gonna saythat our box driver, that you download,has a slightly better feature score. it doesn't mean it has betterfeatures, it's gonna be the. more or less the same driver, but it's, that's the wayyou're gonna take that. and that is how you can makea third party driver be picked instead of the inbox driver,by having it signed, and you bump up the feature score. now it's gonna pickthat driver instead,

because it seems to be better,right? and the last four charactersare identifier score, and that's how close they match. when you go in hereto my device manager, and do properties, anddo details, and hardware ids. here is the identifier score. so if i have the top one, it'sgonna be very close to my hardware. it's gonna pick that one. it even includes the revision ofthe physical hardware in my ahhm,

graphic adaptor. if you can't find the a1 revision,well it's gonna take the slightly more generic which means i don'tcare about revision of the hardware, but it's gonna be that device. otherwise it's gonnapick something else. and the last one is just verygeneric driver from nvidia. so it's gonna work,it's gonna have bad performance and you're not gonna haveall the features. and that is how you make sureall these drivers will work.

now so once, once in a whileyou need to have this drivers as application thing, right. so, i'm gonna use some,this is just an example, right, you can do this for delve,you can do this for lovell, for htc, for ever vendor it is,it doesn't matter. >> they have their own tools. >> they have their own tools ahm,and it's pretty easy to find that. let's assume that for any reason i need to installthe hp hot keys, support thing.

because my users reallywant that feature. anybody had a request forthings like that? no? and they go like, what do you? why? >> i really need it, okay. >> fine. >> so i'll use the view softpackcva which is a text file. i'm gonna open it up. and it's somewhere here, it sayshow to install this, hopefully.

>> there it is. >> the obvious command,which is very simple. >> look at the stuff inthe middle there, the log file. >> often with driver application, that's the key to have configman be happy about that setup. for example, some of the olderinstall field setups that installs driver apps if you don'thave log file it will fail, but what you find for the hp is thatthey often provide you with the config manager switches in theinformation ile about the driver.

>> and if i dont have the dontwanna have any percent the attended folder, i dont wanna have it there,where should i put it? well i can use the parameters. for where ahhm, idle laptops are configurationmanagement stores the log files. and put the log filein the same location. which means if i now run as itshare,those files will be covered as well. which is a bit nice. so i have the command line switch.

i need to explore this application. copies of that directory andput it on the. desktop, create folder, demo. this, ok. hey, there it is. and we need to extract it. maybe i can extract it this way. i don't want to install it. yeah, i can extract it to thatfolder [inaudible] there we go.

but i do need to grab the package. we're just four. and so here's the setup, here'sthe entire application, im sorry. 190, and i go copy. and then i need to createa package of that. i'm gonna create the package eitherin the configuration manager or creating an application you like. it doesn't matter in which way. it depends on the deploymentthrough which we have.

how do you get that packageinstalled based on the fact that it happens to be thatparticular kinda hardware. because i don't want to createa task sequence thing and say, hey, if that,happens to be that make a model, then you should installthis application. we prefer to do it another way. and what we do is this, usually. i wouldn't say usually. we do it every time.

well, with one exception. what mike was about to show you is,the ability to have a separate engine feeding appsinto the config manager to sql. which is fantastic forany type of network deployments. this is dynamic assignment orapplications. this works awesome unless youare using a standalone boot media where you actually need to haveeverything staged on the boot image. >> correct. in that case,you really really need-

>> need to have it in a sequence. >> yes,otherwise we try to avoid that. so i can either usethe moselalias vb script or i can use just model within. the only thing i do isthat i specify that if it happens to be thatparticular model, then you should absolutely installthe following application. and that is for lite touch. most of you are runningconfiguration manager.

so you're not going to domandatory application 001. you're going to do. packages. >> or applications. i could just sort of say, one. and equals to ps1:>> no, no, the package ids are. that's more than s ps1,i promise you. >> ps1:>> nope. >> something like that?

>> how many zeroes did you add? >> it doesn't matter. >> yes, it does matter. [laugh]>> [laugh] >> it does matter, if you wanna count them? >> now that's gonna work. >> [laugh]>> install the hp. >> so.>> stuff.

we cannot specifythe deployment type. sometimes when using the app modelyou have more than one deployment type, if you don't, you don'tneed multiple apps but if you do, well, you need tohave multiple apps. >> in fact but in this case, thelikeliness of you having a multiple application type or installing typesfor this application is very slim. >> but maybe you don't wanna publishit, so there is a way around this. if you don't wanna do it this way,well then you open your task sequence and you specifythe condition for that model,

model name you has make orwhatever it is. and say, hey install thisapplication based on this fact that it happens to be this machine. there are a lot of things thatneeds to be installed like this. so when you do verify thatevery driver is working. it's not enough to justcheck the device manager. you really need to verify that. whatever functionality that isbehind that driver really works. just because there's a devicedriver and says, hey try me,

that's not gonna be good enough. >> all right.it's life. >> it's fine. >> that's fine. >> so, software updates. in config manager, this has been oneof the well, pinpoints for many, many years to have the sequenceinstall as many updates as possible in the single run. now, we've understand we don'treally have that problem anymore.

because how many updates dowe need to actually install? typically as one,i've seen some scenarios for there is a servicingstack up they'd also but in the end you need only onebecause they are cumulative. and we actually have callers inthe room here sitting on that row over there. he owns the windows updates orsoftware updates. so if you have a software updatequestion i'm sure he'll be happy to answer them.

anyway when we buildour reference images, in the current release ofwindows 10, for the software updates action to work reasonablywell in lite touch deployments. what do you need to do is tomake sure that the latest cu, cumulative update is actuallyadded early on into the image. because they did changes tothe windows update agent that you really, really, really want. so how do you do that in lite touch? really, no you're not allowed to,no.

anyone? you put them into packages. so i have a folder here foreach version of windows 10. well, sorry about that,number seven. >> bend your knees. >> happy? >> i'm happy. >> good, so i have a folder for each windows release i'm using tobe able to reference images of.

>> so i've actually added inthis is the september 23? it's a week old update. so i simply add that,right-click and import it. i download it from the microsoftupdate site, the catalog site and i just import it here. and then, i'm creating a filter. so i have a selection profilethat is also named, well, somewhat the same where ihave selected that folder. so i have a folder in packageswhere i import the update.

i have a filter thatselects that folder. and then, in my sequence,that actually builds and captures my windows 10 machine. including a bunch of updates orcomponents. there is an apply patches step. this one i have configured touse that selection profile. >> now here's a good questionbecause someone in the audience are here right now thinking, whydo i need to create selection pro? can i ask, just add allthe drivers to the same file?

i think i do that and it works. it does. it does work. if you add all the packages forevery operating system into one big file of packages,it is going to work. >> the thing is it's goingtry to install them all. windows 7, server, this version andthis version, it would take a pretty long time and even though it willrealize that so it up wasn't for me. and it will continuejust don't do that.

just create that folder,create that filter and your deployment will be happy. so the latest from thisupdate agent is in the image. most of the problems that were withit was solved last week's release of the update agent, so,just make sure it's there. and that means you havea fairly up to date image. and if all the videos from igniteare being published right now on youtube, forthe only ignite channel. and also will be eventualizesoon available on channel 9,

at least i have beenthe previous years but they are availableright now on youtube. and we did a session ontuesday about mastering windows 10 deployment expert level. and in there we show you howto set up an image factory and that's something werecommend that you to do. but the short hand story is,when me and michael create reference images,this is typically what we do. change the font size,we go through a folder where

we have a script andwe run the powershell script. that's it. that script will takeyour deployment share and build a win file foreach sequence that you have. and store them on the site server. fully automated,using mbt in the back end. but there are no excuses for not updating your reference imagesevery now and then. don't have to do that every week.

of course,there is no updates every week. but once a month. every second month,something like that. because that really helps configmanager later on especially for windows 7. there still are somany updates in windows 7 that the default action here. let me take my windows 7 one. this guy, may time out.

but it doesn't do that if yourreference images fairly up to date. so, the quick fix i say is tomake sure the reference image is up to date. now, they did adda variable in help me out. 1606, that will allow you to specifythe timeout to more than 30 minutes. do you really want to havethe sequence wait for more than 30 minutes? get your image up to date and you get away fromthe problem altogether.

so yeah, that was in tips and tricksaround software updates there. so slides. >> now again? >> it's too many slides. i don't like that. >> no,we don't have too many slides. we have one and then we have demo. it's perfect balance. >> it says demo.

>> another. skip that. >> so we then havethe inplace upgrade limitations. i wouldn't say limitation probablydo have challenges around the inplace upgrade. number one when we talkabout inplace upgrades. yes, they worked. yes, we don't really havetoo many problems around it. one really common discussionat customers sites is this.

we are planning to do an inplaceupgrade, but we wanna do a shifting from bios to uefi or we wannado this and we're gonna do this. if your machines are old andthey're gonna be up for hardware replacement,doing an inplace upgrade, keeping the bios and everything,that's gonna be fine. because then you can havethe users trying out windows 10. before they need toreplace the hardware. we don't need thosebig bang projects, i don't, big bang is a reallynice tv series, right.

but you don't needto spend too much. so challenges are and you can go to->> your screen? >> my screen, it says demo, almost. now it says demo. >> yes, i see it. >> i'm eight. so a friend of mine, did write this. we do have limitations,language is one. i did have the customers thatdeployed the uk version of windows

8.1 and now they're gonnaupgrade to windows 10 and they wanna alsochange to us english. it's not fun to be in those withthese [inaudible], but yes- >> what if i know he can't? >> that's wrong. >> [crosstalk]>> sorry? >> can you refresh it? >> you can refresh it. that's another story, but true.

third party anti-virus dependingon vendor, even if you do have a supported antivirus, most likelyyou first need to upgrade it. yeah, okay, so that's another story. you can't do 32 64,you can't do lower skews, but you can go fromenterprise to education. prothetication. >> prothetication?>> prothetication. >> prothetication andthen you can change that later on. you can't do virtual.

you can't do windows to go,usb sticks and that's fine, nobody's gonna do that anyway. that is basicallythe limitations we have. other than that,it flies really nice. there is a note inthe middle there that i, was new in 1607 for windows whichmay give us some additional options in term of thatpart of dis-encryption. why you actually can have windowsinstall additional drivers for those scenarios.

so if you have a vendor thathas been working with this. so chances are higherthan ever before. >> now there's actually twokinds of in place upgrades. one is going from windows 10 or a previous operating system versionfrom windows 10 to windows 10. the other in place upgrade scenariois windows 10 to window 10. right? and that is going to be a morecommon scenario the more time we spend time on this so i think itis the way to do a correct upgrade.

>> yes.>> now if we do that and one of the things that youshould be aware of is this. let's check this sequence. it pretty much looks the sameway in conf manager also, so we don't have a huge difference. i'd like to do ittask sequence ways. there are the->> servicing. >> servicing. but servicing is, we can't reallycontrol it in the way we want to.

so i prefer to have a test sequence. that way you can determine when, how and since it's a test sequence,what do you need to do before? well we can runthe upgrade validation and say if it fails,the don't even try to do this. we can also update drivers,we can uninstall applications, we can install otherapplications after we done, so using a task sequence forthe in phase upgrade seems to be a better choice currently andi strongly recommend you to do that.

>> yes.so another thing is, let's see, yeah, even though didadd in the reflect rubber switch to the online action. how did you get configmatter to use it? well, there's a really long variableyou can use as well to force addition common switches into thestep in the sequence that actually runs the upgrade and that's all,well, if the driver actually works. so far in my experience, when youhave part of these encryption inboxes and you want to doan in place operator and

even sometimes youwant to refresh them. it can be a really painful processto work with the vendor and get the drivers to work andall of that. and more sort ofa a bullet proof scenario is to actually treated as a replace. so if i can have the->> absolutely. >> lucky number seven. so here i have a backuponly sequence. this is the default replaceequals in config manager.

it does a backup only. in here you can also add additionalbios configuration things if you want to convertfrom bios to uefi and mike tadel had a session yesterday,was it wednesday? so for mike terrell onthe youtube channel and you'll find the session entirelyfocused on how to do biased things. and michael also hassome info there later. but this is a backupon the sequence. so i will run that on the existingbox while it's online.

because then i don't have anyproblem with reaching the info on it, because it's online. and i installed the backupon the service somewhere. then as simply take a normaldeployment sequence and that process i restore that backup. on the same box. normally, we replaces when weare replacing computers, but we can also do it on the boxto work around issues with that part of description.

and that always works. so. slides. >> slides. i'm shifting. >> so, let's talk about runningpowershell for a while. >> in the sequence. and there are different ways. one is to use the built in actions. they work.

and then we can use,of course, custom actions. and which means that they basicallyrun it as a powershell script. we have variables and handlings, and we're gonna cover thatif i shift to eight. now, one thing to remember is to make sure that you do have your windows pe features set to include powershell. >> and sure, this will add 100meg or so to your boot image.

i couldn't care less. you're about to applya 10 gig image. if the boot image is another 0.1,okay. >> okay. >> okay, fine. so even if i'm not gonna usepowershell in my boot image, i want powershell to be there. so if i do need to trouble shoot,idon't need to create a vb script. i can just on the fly,powerup the power shut prompt and

get the wmi whateveri need to do right. so it's just faster. now if you have a task sequence,it is the ability to run, if i go to this i have the ability to actuallyaround the power shell script, because there's not makeyou function to do this. this is a very uselesspower shell script that just promise stuff on the screen, butif we open that power shell script which i have here, and around,somewhere around here. go to search, maybe demopowershell script and open that.

and make it slightly bigger, youcan see that it has a function and it has another function toimport all the variables and have the stack looping. and it's gonna writestuff to the screen. if we use write-progress- activity, that's gonna pop up in the tasksequence engine, so you can see the commands are actuallyrunning, if you want to do that. and of course you cando things like this. just no, waiting.

there it goes again. another way to run a powershellscript is to run it like this. you run it as command line. so in this case i have just a sequence that does nothing elsethan do not take that course. >> that's a vb script. so it's gonna do nothingat all in the end. [laugh] and then from that command promptwe can now execute the script.

so i'm gonna go to that machine andi want to pick this a sequence as called user's[inaudible] dev, dev here it is. and i'm gonna click that one andi'll do next. and begin. it's gonna run this. it's gonna end upwith just emp okay. and that means thatthe sequence is running. if the sequence is running, i canstart powershell anyway and i can load the sms type ts environment,and from within that, i can now

play with my variables, with myflag, like you're on the vbscript. that means it's pretty easy tocreate your own things like. powershell wrappers orthings like that. the only thing weneed to do is this. we need to import that object,put it in something, and now we have the abilityto dump that information out. so i'm gonna run this. that's elevated. gonna paste this in.

gonna make it slightly bigger. now you can see this supperadvanced okay button coming up and that's from all the stuff butwe don't do that. yes, i know. so now we have been below that, and now i can run this to getthe variables out of the system. and if i wanna run this one,it can give me everything. so, this is the way westart developing a script. can i, do i have the right, sowhat's the variation for that?

converting every piece in ourenvironment variables into a powershell variable. and if you go to my blog and you search for something like biosupgrade, you're gonna find one of those powershell scripts thatuses this functionality, so it's basically a powershellwrapper around it. >> slides coming up. so this is very easy andlight touch to do. is more tricky in config manager.

next slide. what will you can do in configmanager is we can borrow. i was about to say steal. look, if you don't do that weborrow a component form entity and we use it togetherwith config manager. it says demo. very happy that do. so let me start up a client here, it's a windows 10 machine,and on my site server,

i have a sequence createdexclusively for debugging scripts. so i just have a veryshort sequence. use to package, run the gather,and then it's using the service ui component to actuallylaunch a command prompt. because that command promptwill now run as system as to sequence itselfallow me to access stuff which we normally do not have accessto when you're running the sequence. because it will prevent youfrom interacting with it. unless you are on windows pe.

so, if i go to that client log in, i have already deployedthis sequence, so i will just open software center andi'll rerun that sequence. dowloading and installing software,just download the entity package. it runs gather eventually. but in the meantime, i will openup an elevated command prompt. because we can clearly see thatthe sql engine is running, if i go to this folderon local administrator. we can see it in the title bar butjus to make sure i'm an admin

and if i ran a script. that priors to accessthe sequence variables right now. it's not gonna be happy. [blank audio] butif i wait until the sequence opens the other commandprompt which is yellow, and i run the exact same script. then i do have the variables. and this allow me to runmy scripts over and over, change them, run them, change them,run them until i mail them.

and then i will update thema package and deploy this normal. but this is saving you somuch time when debugging scripts. in the sequence engine. because updating packages,having it redistributed, it's just interesting. >> it says gpo refresh andweb services. shorthand story here. a common error or issue, especially with lite touchdeployments is that you

have a policy in your environmentthat will break the process. but what you very easily cando is we can use web services to move the machines around. so, if i get the, thank you. you can download these web servicesfrom codeplex, have been around for quite some time. i have some on my blogs as well. but in your sequences,you can simply add instructions, in this case to say, hey.

in this case i'm getting the targetou from a database where the machine is supposed to end up eventually, that was stored outof way in a variable. then i will set the staging ou,to which i have no group policies, no group policies at all. that's what i'm going to use formy entire deployment, but in the very end of the sequence,i simply call the web service that loads that machine by calling a webservice that contacts the domain controller and moves the objectto the right location.

and then i do a final reboot. so now i can run throughthe entire sequence without any policies applied. but in the end, i'll make sure thatthe policies i do want to have in the box is actually on the box. it could be policies thatprevents displays notification. it could be policiesthat renames local admin. they would really really breakthe [inaudible] sequence. but, if you do it this waythe problem goes away. slides.

uifi deployments. so, deploying uefi isnot a problem itself. or it's pretty decent. but you need to shiftfrom bios uefi. and that, is of course,always challenging. now on your screen right now,there's a blog post from ccmexec. >> [inaudible].>> yes. a nice pay and it's very genericwhich is the good thing. it goes through allthe steps you need to do but

here we are in step 2 of the yarn braids stylein this step i will be showing you in detail step-by-step how to do your own your yarnbraids before we begin braiding i will first show you how to prepare your yarn you wantto make sure that you predetermine how long you want to leave of your braids to be whetheryou want them above your shoulders your shoulders were below your shoulders i will show youhow to prepare your yarn for your style once your pieces are prepared i'll show you step-by-stephow to braid your yarn before you actually begin braiding your yard braids you want tomake sure that you have already measured out pieces of yarn that you will be using to braidyour hair so to begin you want to know exactly how long you want your yarn braidsrace tobe an hour my arm brace to fall past my shoulders

maybe a little bit above mid back so whatyou want to do to help you as a guide to know how long your pieces will be visibly goingto take the yard on this for you have here you want to unwind a very long amount justto give you an idea of how short or long you want your braids to be so i am just goingto why this off my your piece that i have here number online probably about 2 to 3 feetnow my yarn braids are not going to be that long but this will help me as a guide to howlong so you can simply take your scissors in your going to cut the yarn off from thespool and now it is extremely long piece that i have here i have one end of it and i'm goingto take this in place it where i want it to be so if i want my yard braids to be somewherebit back a little higher than mid back it

is probably going to be at my rib cage hereso i'm just going to take the end of my yarn piece just wanted a place that my rib cagenow i'm going to bring it up to the side of my head here to stretch and see how long iwant it to be so when i pull the thread up this is exactly where it meets up to the sideof my head in this point as well goes down to my rib cage so now what i do is i takethis finger that's up here and i leave it there and i also have my finger here at thebottom below simply want to do is let this piece go with his hand so they can meet downat the bottom of where the yarn meets so where that piece meets here i'm going to cut itoff so that i had even an even piece of yarn so i am going to place my finger here andthen i'm going to cut this piece of yarn and

now want to premeasure to make sure it's thelength i wanted to be so to make sure that the yard braids fall kind of mudpack or littlebit higher than mid back i want to make sure that it's my rib cage at least top of my ribcage so i am going to go ahead and find the middle point of this your data to pieces thateven down here and then am going to place it at the side of my head to see exactly whereit falls and it falls exactly what i wanted to be right at the top of my rib cage so nowthis is the exactly length that i would like for my yarn braids to be if you want youryarn braids to be a lot shorter you only wanted to hit your shoulder then make sure that yourest you are see where on your shoulder here and then you will pinch the yarn and cut exactlywhere you wanted to be and i will serve as

your length so now my length is of how longi want my yarn to be i'll use as a guide to cut all of the individual yarn pieces weremy braids so once again i'm going to take this piece that's the exact length i wantedto be and i'm going to grab the yarn from my spool of yarn meet the cut piece that ihave to the beginning of the yarn and i'm going to try both pieces all the way perfectlydown as possible that i can and then where is going to take my scissors to cut my newpiece of yarn to match that length now i have two pieces of yarn that are the same lengthand if i measured again to the side of my head it falls right at the top of my rib cageso just continue to cut pieces to make sure they are the length so that all of the lengthsof your braids are the same so once again

i grab my piece of yarn and grab 2 piecesor just simply one of them since they are the same length so i will just used both ofthem that i've cut and i'm going to place this here on this yard draw it all the wayup to the end and then i'm going to take my scissors and i'm going to cut the yarn tomake sure matches so now i have read pieces of yarn and if i make sure the bottoms areequal and put it back up to the side of my head is still falls exactly what i wantedto be when you are doing yarn braids we will be using 3 pieces of yarn to do so you canuse more in your using more yarn draw it all the way up to the end to i am going to takemy scissors and then i am going to cut the yarn to make sure it matches that length nowi have 2 pieces of yarn that falls right at

the top of my rib cage so just continue tocut your yarn pieces so that all of the lengths of your braids are the same so once againjust continue to cut pieces that are the same length so that all of the lengths of yourbraids ae the same so one again i am going to grab the lengths that i cut and i am goingto place this here on this yarn draw it all the way up to the end and then i am goingto take my scissors and then i am going to cut the yarn to make sure that it matchesso now i have 3 pieces of yarn and if i make sure the bottoms are equal and put it backup to the side of my head it still falls exactly where i want it to be when you are doing youryarn braids we will be using 3 pieces of yarn to do so you can use more yarn but using moreyarn allows for you to have bigger braids

so what i will show you is with these 3 piecesof yarn how you will braid them onto your head now that you have already measure outyour yarn pieces for your yarn braids i will show you how to position your hands on theyarn so that you can install the yarn for your yarn braids so what you need to makesure is that you already measured out your lengths we will be using 3 pieces of yarnyou can use more yarn you could use maybe 2 pieces but 3 pieces the typical size thatyou want to stick with for your typical yarn size braid so if you are familiar with doingindividual braids like zillions or single braids or box braids the same technique forpositioning your hands applies even though we are using yarn but i will be showing youthe same technique applies to yarn so what

you want to do is make sure that you dividethe hair into its parts so we have 3 pieces of yarn here and you simply want to dividethis into two thirds and one third so we simply will just take one of the pieces of yarn awayfrom the other you are so much you divide that now is perfectly broken up because nowin my left hand i have two thirds of the i originally had in my right hand i have one3rd of the yarn that i originally had so next what you want to do is take your one 3rd andthrow around and wrapped around his two thirds first to form a 3rd part so now the smallpieces going to wrap around this to 2-3rd is like that in your going to bring both theends together and make sure they are of equal lengths for all the parts and now here wehave 3 legs for our braid this 3rd you have

here i brought the piece back around itselfso looks like now there's 2 pieces and there's 2 pieces here in 2 pieces here as well sonow you have this hair that's divided equally into 3 parts for your braid since your braidconsists of 3 sections as well so to further position your hands what you want to do istake your right hand the three main fingers of your right hand position it around yourpeice that we had in the beginning so that small 3rd they wrapped around two thirds youwant to position 3 of your fingers) as close to the meeting point of all the pieces ofyarn as possible once you do that you take your left hand insert your index finger intothe middle of these 2 sections here and your middle finger is on the outside with yourthumb on the outside as well and all the rest

of your fingers will wrap around the threadjust like this so once again i will show you exactly how you want your hands positionedfor the braid to take this 3rd off and bring it back with the 2 thirds making sure allof the legs are equal now what you do a separate this piece of thread into a 3rd and two thirdsso i am going to pinch one off now is perfectly separated into one 3rd and two thirds nowyou going to wrap the 3rd around the two thirds to form your 3rd leg of your braid so onceall the ends are neat and perfect and now you have 3 points for your braid so the partthat was originally a 3rd you take 3 main fingers of your right hand and position iton the hair there any take your left hand insert your index finger into the openingof these 2 pieces here and on the outside

you have your thumb your index finger andthe rest of your hands will go around hair just like that so you once again to answeryour index finger your thumb in your middle fingers on the outside in all the fingersjust wrap around the hair and that's how you want to have your hands positioned now thelast step is to simply take your right hand swirl it underneath insert your index fingerthrough and hold that piece of hair there in between your index finger in your and nowthis frees your left hand so that you can use your right hand for braiding so once againi'm going to show you what just happened so now that you have your hands positioned onyour thread you are going to take your right hand firmly holding hair going to twirl underneathinsert into that v opening there with just

your next finger and pinch the thread betweenyour index finger in your thumb and i your right hand is ready to braid my your lefthand is for so now that you know how to position your hands on the pieces of thread now willshow you how to braid and your left hand is free so now that you know how to positionyour hands on the pieces of thread in your yarn braids before you begin braiding youryarn braids you want to make sure that you prepped the section of hair that you willbe working on so what you want to do is take your comb and part your hair and a desiredsection that you want to begin your braid with also you can use a spray water bottleto mist your section of hair to help you part your hair and detangle through as you prepareyour hair for your braid so what i will be

doing is taking my spray bottle i will justslightly missed the section hair that i want to are to help me part my you want to takeyour comb and you are going to part a section of hair that you that you will be workingi will start by my ear to show you how big you want your part to be if you are familiarwith doing individual braids like box braids you want to go along with that measurementof how wide or big you want your part to be so the section the hair that i will be braidis about half an inch on both ends of how wide you want your part so now you want totake your comb and you're going to detangle through your section of hair and then youare going to apply a little bit of hair gel to the ends of your hair to begin braidingfor your yarn braids to begin braiding i will

quickly show you once again how to prepareyour hands on your yarn so what you want to do is make sure all the ends are equal toone another and you going to take one of the thirds wrap it around the two thirds and thenthe part that was originally a 3rd you want to position 3 fingers on your right hand onit and then take your left hand insert your index finger and use the rest of your fingersto hold the hair in place once you do that you going to twirl your right hand underneathinsert it through this opening with your index finger in you and pinch the hair this in betweenyour index finger in your together this frees your left hand and now with your right handwe are going to begin braiding so i am going to go right up to my part where i am on mysection of hair here and now what you want

to do is take your left hand and put it overyour head to help assist you as you are braiding your first yarn braid so what you want todo is take your left-hand and gather all of the hair with the 3 main fingers of your lefthand which is your thumb your index finger in your middle finger so now what i will dois i will take my right hand now open up my next finger and my index finger and my thumband i will grab all of the hair that i have in my left hand in between the index fingerand thumb of my right though i will grab all of the hair there with my index finger now that i am holding hair going to take myleft hand and i am going to grab the yarn that's on top position it with my 3 main fingersand then i'm going to turn my right hand to right turn to the right keeping everythingnice and tight i hold the hair with my left

hand excuse me i hold the thread with my lefthand and i take my index finger inserted through this opening i created once i twirled my handsto the right i hook this bottom piece of bread here and i add that to my left hand so nowmy right hand is free and my left hand has 2 pieces of section 3 to take my right hand3 main fingers and i am going to grab the hair and the thread together so once i havedown that i have two section pieces of hair my left hand, twirl my left hand to the leftand in this v opening i am going to take my index finger put it through and hook on thatbottom piece of thread there so i am going to add that thread to my right hand here andnow my left hand is free once again and i have 2 separate pieces in my right hand everytime you have to section pieces in either

one of your hands you are going to twirl yourhand to the desired direction so since i have 2 separate pieces in my right hand, twirlmy hand to the right and it creates an opening here in-between those 2 pieces and now thati’m holding my left hand to the thread i take my index finger i hook the bottom piecewith the thread in the hair hair and add that to my left you going to continue this processa couple more times to make sure that the braid is secure so now i have 2 differentsectioned pieces of yarn in my left hand in my right hand the 3 main fingers will holda piece of hair there was a sad 2 sections of hair here mature my left hand to let theleft hand gets twirl to the left the right hand just want to the right so as you seehere two pieces i am going to twirl that to

the left and in this opening in between those2 sections i am going to hook my right index finger and i want to continue the same processtwo pieces here so i twirl my right hand to the right in this opening i’m going to hookthe index of my left hand now to pieces on my left hand so i twirl my left hand to theleft insert my finger into the opening there and hook the bottom piece so now you know that you for the braid onpretty securely if you can let go without unraveling and as you can see a braids startedto form here so from this point which want to do is make sure that all 3 pieces are distinctand you're going to put those pieces into your fingers and continue to braid down tothe very bottom the reason why it's great to put gel at the

ends of your hair here is because once i startbraiding past the hair the slick gel on the ends helps the hair to a really flat withthe yarn then you are just to keep braiding all the way down to the very end of your yarnbraid now you are going to continue to braid down onto the very bottom to you can no longergo any further so now once you braided to the very bottomfor you want to do is grab the end of the braid that you found with your yarn you wantto twirl around your finger and create a knot so you just simply creating a not at the verybottom of the yarn braid once you create a knot you are going to all the night very tightly as tightly as you canand as flat as you can so you can use your fingers to just really flatten that knot andmake it extremely tight were going to take

our scissors and you are going to go backto your yarn braid in you are going to cut directly below that knot there this createsa very safe seal at the ends of your braids so that your braid doesn't come down so ifyou have any extra threads sticking out of the braid you simply grab your scissors andjust snip those pieces all and that is your complete yarn braid so once again i will showyou how to braid your yarn braid so he was a pretty 3rd from the two thirds of the yarnwrap the 3rd round of two thirds position your right hand on the 3rd piece and now theother piece you insert your index and wrap the rest of your fingers around the hair likeso take your right hand turn it under insert the index finger of your right hand and pinchthat hair that's underneath your index finger

between your thumb your index finger and nowyour left hand is free and your hair is still section pieces and we are going to braid sonow once you bring your hands up to your hair your section of hair your hair should alreadybe prepared section the little bit of gel so now with my left hand when i’m goingto do is grab all of the hair securely in my 3 main fingers make sure that i have allof the hair here then i am going to take my right hand open up my index finger and mythumb and grab all of the hair in between my index finger and my thumb so once i graball of the hair and take this piece to move it to the side out of the way a position atpiece in between my left hand with my 3 main fingers my right hand has two section is apair of which were my right hand to the right

so i am going to twirl my hand to the rightand take my index for my left hand insert it and hook that bottom piece of yarn so nowmy right hand is free and my left hand has 2 pieces of hair i take my right hand againin 3 main fingers wrapped be here in the thread it is my left hand has 2 pieces of sectionhere is where my left hand to the weft in between opening at creative and hook my indexfinger and add that piece of thread that to that hand and i have one section of the lefthand with my 3 main fingers and once again the section that has 2 separate distinct piecesyou will turn that to whatever section so my right hand gets turned into the right whichcreates a opening so i am going to insert the index through in hook the bottom pieceto add to my left hand now my right hand has

one section of hair my left hand has two processrepeats the left hand rotates to the left insert into the opening of the bottom pieceof thread and then continue the same process for the thread and once i have hooked thethread onto the braid well enough i should be able to let go of the thread in the braidis still intact here so now from this point i can bring my left hand that was over myhead down more comfortably keep the sections divided as you see here and just continuebraiding to the very bottom of the thread you would just continue braiding to you getto the very bottom until you cant go any further all all once you braided down to the verybottom you just want to grab the bottom grap the bottom of your yarn braid twirl it aroundyour finger to create a knot once you create

a knot you are going to squeeze it reallytight until its as flat and as tight as you can possibly get it and then you take yourscissors once again and then you going to trim off the bottom piece of yarn that's underneathyour knot to complete your braid once you've done that you can go ahead and skim any piecesthat stick out from your yarn braid and then your yarn braid is complete in this step ihave shown you in detail how to do your yarn braid first show you how to section your yardpieces how to position your hands on your yarn and then finally how to braid your ownyarn braids in the next step number 3 i will be giving you my best tips tricks and advicefor doing your yarn braid style
