Knitting Ideas For The Kitchen

when you’re working stripes in your knitting, and if you’re working with the same two or three or four – however many colors, you have the option of cutting the yarn every time you start with a new color, or if you’regoing to keep using that same color of yarn, you have another option of just carrying thatyarn up the side of your work and not having so many ends to weave in when you’re finished. which is ideal. to do that it’s the same when you’re knittingback and forth, or if you’re knitting in the round. the issues with tension and carrying the yarnup and everything else are the same.

it’s a quick little technique, it will saveyou a lot of time. let’s take a look. here i have this little knitted piece andi’m switching from yellow to purple every two rows. and i only have one yellow end and one purpleend because i’m carrying the yarn up the side of the work. now this really only works if you’re knittingfor a back and forth piece – not knitting in the round. you need to knit an even number of rows, sothat you can keep swapping things out over

on the same side of the work. you want to knit down and back, a multipleof two rows, even number. i have knit two rows in yellow, and i’mready to switch to purple. and the purple of course is already attached. before i get started, i want to intertwinethese two threads a little bit. so i’m just going to flop one yarn overthe other. because i don’t want any loose loops hangingoff the side of my work. and i’m going to put – you see what i did there? all i did was flopone yarn over the other like that.

and this is kind of important when you’redoing a two row repeat, but really much more important if you have more rows of knitting, because there is more of an option for a longer loop on the side of the work. put my needle in. wrap it with the purple yarn, and that firststitch, the tension is pretty important. if you pull it too tightly, you’ll bunchup the sides of your work, so you want to make sure you that you give the work a tugas you tighten up that stitch. and then you knit across normally. or purl, or whatever your pattern’s tellingyou to do.

the only technique here is on the side ofthe work. okay, so that’s the technique. you’ll see here that there is a tiny bitmore bulk on the side of the work, because there is one extra strand running up the side. but even knitting this flat, you can’t reallysee, you can’t really see it on the right the wrong side of the work you do see theselittle twists where i flopped one yarn over the other to keep there from being big loops. this is a great technique that will save youa ton of time from weaving in a million ends every time you change to a different colorwhen you’re working stripes.

and that’s carrying up the yarn for stripes. [music]

how to knit a strawberry baby hat part 4. hi, guys, i’m kristen and welcome to studioknit! it’s day four of five learning to knit upthese super cute strawberry baby hats! today are going to decrease the crown of oursuper cute strawberry hat. if you haven’t already, please make sureto check out parts one two and three to learn how to knit up to this point. links to thecomplete playlist for all five of my lessons are in the description below. these decreases are so totally simple andmake this really cool swirly indented strawberry topper look that i just adore!

so, for the first row, we will switch to ourdouble pointed needles. and remember on this row, we are still knitting in multiples ofeight. the first two stitches are knit two together. and stitches three through eightare simply knitting, and we repeat that pattern all the way around our row. we're going todivide our stitches on each of our three needles in the round. since i cast on 6 multiplesof 8, i'm going to have 2 multiples on each needle. once i’m finished with this firstdecrease row, that means i have multiples of seven, so i have 14 stitches on each ofmy three needles. with our second row, we are knitting in multiplesof seven, and again we knit two together, then stitches three through seven are knitted, repeating the pattern until the end our row.

we continue decreasing our rows in all theway down until we have knit the last two together. because i cast on 48 stitches, which is 6multiples of 8, i have six stitches remaining. i love the dimensional look of the strawberryhat topper. there are these great ridges and depth. looks like it was way more complicatedto knit than it is! always a plus. now we are ready to begin finishing up withour cute little stem, put on a leaf embellishment, and weaving in our yarn ends, and we are goingto learn how to do all of that in part five of my series. i hope you are inspired to knit up these adorablestrawberry baby hats. to learn how to knit these from start to finish, including a writtenpattern and tutorials on all the knitting

techniques we're using, please go check outthe links and my complete playlist in the description below. and thank you so much for watching studioknit. if you enjoyed this video and would like to see more, please make sure to subscribe, like, and share my videos with your friends!!! oh, and i sell my hand-knitted strawberryhats in my etsy store, too, so check those out! see you in part five. bye!

a knitted lavender heart sachet [l.o.v.e.l.o.v.e.] hi, guys i’m kristen and welcome to studio knit. i love the sweet, naturalsmell of lavender. research shows the scent lowers heart rate and blood pressure, putting you in a relaxed state. what i love about these knitted lavender heart sachets is thatthe yarn is woven tightly enough to keep your loose lavender inside, but it's porous enough to let all the delicious lavender scent release. i became totally inspired by sarah’s threelavender diys of coral tv from our recent kin community new year new you collaboration. i also love tessa evelegh’s book lavender, as well. it's full of practical inspirationsfor natural gifts, recipes and decorative displays. i’m including the link to bothcoral tvs lavender video and tessa evelegh’s

book in the description below. so from sarah's tutorial, i lit my newly created diy lavender candle and set out to create my very own lavender sachet. a knitted version, of course. and this heart shape is totally perfect for valentine’sday and all year round as a gift to anyone you love! especially yourself!the materials we will use are: worsted or aran weighted yarn, in any colors of yourchoice, size 7 or 8 us knitting needles, a tapestry needle, scissors. oh, and lavender.i found my dried lavender at my local craft store. and for this project, i have designeda really simple knitted puffy heart shape. the links to my free pattern and completeknitting video tutorial for my knitted hearts are in the description below. so, once youhave knitted up your two heart shapes, to

make up the front and back of your sachet, simply tack them together using yarn and your tapestry needle with the right side of yourpieces facing together. turn them inside out. and what i love is that all of our littleyarn ends will be able to just stuff right into our sachet for extra stuffing. and thenadd your loose lavender, and then close up your little hold by finishing the seam. it’sso pretty, smells great, relaxing, and full of love. your friends, family, and loved oneswill cherish this thoughtful handmade gift made especially by you! i hope you give thisfun quick knit project a try. and thank you so much for watching studio knit. when yousubscribe, you will receive a new knitting video every monday. make sure to check outall of my favorite valentine’s day projects

how to make a rose from a necktie.[you mean everything to me] hi, guys, i’m kristen and welcome to studioknit! father’s day is upon us, and i thought it would be really fun to create a twist onthe traditional necktie gift. let’s recycle old neckties from our dad or our local second–handstore and make them into these gorgeous diy fabric flowers. the materials we will use are neckties inany fabric and your color choice is totally optional, a glue gun, measuring tape, andscissors. oh, if you think this would be a fun diy projectto try, please hit like to let me know you would like to see more projects like this!

to begin, first cut off the label. with thebackside of our tie facing us, we start with the narrow tail end of the tie and measure10 inches. i’m marking it off here with a tapestry needle. we just start rolling itup tightly to create the middle of our rose, dabbing a bit of hot glue as we go along.once we reach our marker of ten inches, it is time to start making our rose petals. simplytwist your tie counter-clockwise and secure with hot glue as you go along. you’ll seethat by twisting our tie, the rose petals are formed creating little points along theway. continue rolling up and securing with glue. nearing the end, i like to make useof the decorative tipping area of our tie, which is usually a different pattern or color,to create our roses’ leaf. simply place

along the backside of our rose, glue it downso it is peeking out, and you are done. [who knew we would come so far] thank you so much for watching studio knit!please subscribe and check out my complete father’s day diy gift idea playlist, includinghow to knit a necktie and coming soon, how to bake bacon roses! happy father’s day, everyone! bye! a handmade headband is a great way to keepyour ears warm without messing up your hair! in this video, i'll give you some great tipsfor knitting your own cozy headband. hi, i'm stefanie japel, a designer and instructoron craftsy dot com. the first thing i'll show you is how to cast on and join to work inthe round. in order to cast on for this headband, you'llneed to use a circular needle. cast on the number of stitches and join towork in the round. you want to make sure that all of the stitchesare facing the same way, so that you don't get a twist in the project.now, knit in k2p2 ribbing, all the way around. this ribbing keeps the edges of the headbandstretchy.

next, you need to change to a larger needleand knit for a few inches. to change to a larger needle, you just pickup the needle you want to use, and start knitting. eventually, all of the stitches will be onthe new needle. now, change back to the smaller needle, andknit in the same rib pattern again. finally, bind off in stitch pattern. thismeans that you knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches, all while bindingoff like normal. once you've finished binding off, you're readyto keep your ears warm and your hair cute. thanks for watching, and don't forget youcan click the "i" in the top-right corner of this video to learn more knitting techniquesor to find the supplies i've been using in

this video.

Knitting Ideas For Dogs

hi, i’m valã©rie and my urban craft is knitting. my grandmother taught me how to knit when i was 7. she taught me the basic and the techniques. after that, my aunt opened the door to the more creative side of knitting. a more original side. en bought me books for knitting for kids. i’ve never stopped knitting since then. i use a very easy knit-stitch, but that’s how i like it. because i want to focus on something else. knitting is, according to me, the way to create something, to make, what i see in my imagination, real. then is the technique less important, but is it more about

how i will make it, the color, the shape, so easier stitches are good enough for me. i always used knitting-needles, until last year. they made the different between knitting as a craft or knitting as a profession, because knitting with needles takes more time. and last year, i got the change to buy a machine secondhand. it’s a machine that knits double jersey. they don’t sell those anymore, so i was luck to find one, in such good condition. i had the idea to make customized products, on demand and i collect everything what i make. it’s like a world, a colorful world,

a fun world, where vegetables are in contact with animals or something more serious, like letters, but where all sort of things live together. i didn’t like to say to other “it’s made by valã©rie” i had a hard time to see myself as a brand. i like being the designer behind “little emma k”. most of my products are for sale in stores. i also sell online and postorder. but i also take personal demands, like when people ask for a personalized object. when i see people opening my packages,

and the first reaction is a smile, i’m so happy. because emotions are so important for me. a smile is just so amazing for me.

Knitting Ideas For Dad

happy wheels, definitely one of my favorite games maybe of all time. what a fantastic display of digital blood, torn limbs, and mangled bodies. just [beep] brilliant. so much so that i decidedto make it into a halloween costume. this costume was actually prettyeasy to put together and only requires a couple of quick props. here's what you need:a green shirt—

i picked this one up at the thrift storeon the cheap— a pair of khaki shorts which i'll makeout of these khaki pants i also found there, a bicycle helmet—this amazing hannah montana onei picked up for only four bucks which i will totally make twerk—i mean work. you'll also need a pair of black shoes, some white socks, and a black belt, all of which i already had. get yourself a fake arm which you can pick upat any halloween store. this was probably the most expensive pieceand ran me eight bucks. also gather up some fake blood,

some red paint, some red yarn, and a pair of scissors, oh, and a bike tire if you can score one easily. this will definitely add context to the costume. first thing's first. begin distressing your outfit. you want to create that i just got intoa gnarly bike accident look but a bit more exaggerated. that could mean meticulously cuttingsmall holes in the things or frantically going bat shit crazy with your scissors, whichever you prefer. there's really no wrong way here.

i'm slipping the blade of the scissorsinto the seams of the collar and sleeves and doinga little cutting and tearing action. dragging your blade across exposed edges also helps create that classic bike wreck feel. now it's time to bloody these duds up. this is where you get some creative license, so feel free to run with the special effectsmakeup artist within. taking your food blood, create some blood-soaked patterns and designs all over your outfit.

because this fake blood went ona little darker than i would have liked, i have applied some red paint on topto brighten it up a bit. on the sleeve where i'm eventuallygoing to attach my fake arm, i'm making more bloodier than the rest. next up, this awesome helmet.after carefully removing the cover, turns out this helmet was black, nothing some white spray paint won't cure. be sure to take out to a well-ventilated areaand cover it evenly. while everything is drying, take out your fake arm. this thing is awesome but not nearlyas bloody as it needs to be.

so apply some extra bloodand red paint to your liking. once it's all dried, at the very topnear that protruding bone, you're going to wantto snip two holes on either side large enough to insert a piece of yarn through. now take out your red yarnand cut off about two feet of it. double it over and string throughthe holes in your fake arm and make a knot. create a similar pair of holes on your shirt towards the bottom of the sleeveand tie the arm onto the shirt, giving it a good six inchesof visibly hanging yarn.

all that's left is to bloody upyour white helmet a bit along with the rest of you.then just put the whole outfit together. tuck your arm into the shirt, and your costume is complete. limbless, bloody, and awesome. yeah, you'll totally have one armfor the entire evening, but [beep] it's halloween. what are you going as this year? let us know by leaving a comment below. you might even find some more cool ideas down there.who knows?

also be sure to subscribe to threadbangerfor more halloween inspiration and check out more diy costumesby clicking that video right there. have an awesome halloween everybody.

Knitting Ideas For Charity

hey! happy project for awesome today, i want to talk about knitting. knitting for tiny premature babies. in norway, we've got the amanda project, named after a little girl who lived most of her short life at a hospital in oslo the story is that her grandmother asked the doctors if there was anything she could do for her granddaughter. and the doctor said she needed clothes. hats, mittens, socks and blankets. all premature babies need warm clothes. and that's how the amanda project began. how it works is that you knit the smallest size you can find.

then you send it to the project and they distribute it to hospitals all over the country. but, ofcourse, norway isn't the only country woth a project like this. in the uk you've got bliss. wich is about the same thing it's about...oi... bliss works with the families of premature babies and sick newborns. they help both the babies and the families get whatever they need. like warm clothes. i think project linus opperates in both the uk and usa, i found an american website. stuff like this is great for people like me, who've got it in my hands, but not in my wallet. it's great doing something for someone by using my hands instead of just moving numbers around.

right now, i'm knitting a blanket. because that's the easiest whilst talking into a camera. a blanket for a premature baby, doesn't have to be biger than a sheet of a3 paper. like this. and this is a pattern for you: the gauge is 13sts for 10cm (or 4inc) for me, that's two strands of sandnesgarn's "smart" on needles 6mm (#10) cast on 40 sts, knit rows untill it measures 42cm (17inc). and cast off, but i thought that was obvious. most of these projects wants 100% wool or alpacca.

with any fibre, you'll wnat to wash your product before sending it away. that way you'll get rid of chemicals and stuff. and don't smoke and knit. that should be my new motto. "don't smoke and knit" sounds good. links to everything i've talked about is in the...thing. thanks for listening. don't forget to be awesome and... don't smoke and knit.

Knitting Ideas For Beginners

the double stockinette knit stitch pattern! hi, guys, i'm kristen and welcome to studio knit! i'm super excited to share this double stockinette stitch pattern with you. now, it has this beautiful, smooth finishand it is nice and stretchy. and guess what? on both sides it is identical, it looks like the stockinette stitch on both sides. and doing this allows our work to lie flat, which the regular stockinette stitch always does curl up. it's also a little bit thicker so it's niceand squishy.

i think this is perfect for scarves! so let's get started! we begin with our beloved slip knot and we are casting on in multiples of two. we are going to begin with knitting one. okay, now we are going to slip the next stitch. we bring our yarn in front and then as ifto purl, we just slip that stitch right off of our needle. we don't do any knitting or any purling, wejust slip it. now we're going to bring the yarn back and we're just repeating.

so we already have figured out this pattern. we are knitting one, okay, now what do we do? we bring the yarn to the front and we're simply slipping that stitch right off of our needle. really doesn't get much easier than this and it is such a cool stitch pattern. we continue to the end of our row. and here we are with the last two stitches. again, we are knitting one, bring that yarnto the front and slip it. that's it! so, let's go ahead and see what it looks like as we begin row two,

we can see the slip and the knit, it looks a little bit differentthere. and we start again. we knit one, we're going to bring that yarnto the front and we are going to slip one. and we just continue those, every single row, it's exactly the same. and just continue knitting until your pieceis the length you desire. i hope you are inspired to knit up this double stockinette knit stitch pattern. please make sure to subscribe to my channel studio knit. you can click my little icon right there onthe screen. i also have some great knit stitch patternsto follow and check me out on pinterest, i
